Minglong nodded tentatively and replied, "I will give you another chance. You seem like you might need more another chances. And we are still in most of the same classes."
He hesitated for a second and then added, with a small, friendly smile, "Remi, your audition, did it go well? I know that there are many many violin players."

Remi nodded and gave the other man a smile. He turned to begin packing up his stuff, and glanced over when Minglong spoke again. He nodded. "I think so. I've still got a lot of work to do when it comes to violin, since I only started practicing in the last couple of years, but I'm glad I got in, because I really like violin." He explained simply, even able to add a smile with his words.

Minglong nodded along and said, "Being in an orchestra, it will help with the instrument. And our orchestra director is very good. The violins are always the busiest section, and there are only five of us who play oboe, so I've never tried for violin chairs, but I like the instrument a lot too. I play in one of the string quartets."
Minglong settled his bag a little bit more firmly on his shoulder and asked, "Your class that we are not both in, it is calculus, yes? I saw you outside the room when I was dropping Yongji off."

Remi listened to him, pulling his bag up onto his shoulder. He raised an eyebrow, he had a very vague idea of what an oboe even was. He recognized the sound, if anything because of orchestra earlier. "It's my first time in a legit orchestra, but I like it so far." He admitted honestly.
He nodded, "Yeah. Are you two friends or something?" He asked, recalling seeing him with the pretty boy earlier. He put his hands into his pockets, turning so it was hopefully obvious they could leave the classroom now.

Minglong smiled widely, eyes lighting up, when Remi said that he liked the orchestra so far. He replied, "It is a good orchestra. The director, he is very straightforward, and he is good at not playing favorites. I feel like I earn my chair placement when he chooses."
Minglong thought for a moment about how respond to Remi's question, and eventually, he replied, "Um, or something. He is one of my boyfriends." He sounded tentative about the last choice of word, clearly not sure he had selected the right word in English.

Remi nodded, though he didn't really know the professor well enough to determine if what Minglong was saying was true or not. He sighed, sticking his hands into his pockets and walking out of the classroom. "I guess I'll have to really work to become first chair in violin though, huh?" He asked, mildly amused by the idea of even trying. He liked violin, but he wasn't that driven.
He paused for a moment, trying to process if he heard Minglong right. He freed one of his hands, pinching the bridge of his nose and his head tilted to the side. "Did you..." He began, running his hand through his hair before looking to the older man, his hand dropping to his side and finding his pocket again. "One of them?" He asked.

Minglong thought about it and replied, "It would probably be a lot of work, yes, but I have not heard you play, so I do not know how good you are. I am sure that I will hear at practices though."
He tilted his head and added, "There are auditions later in the month to join the small groups. The music director, he helps to put people in string quartets and things like that. I play in one with the first chair first violin, the first chair viola player, and the first chair cellist from last term. That is for the violin. They are good for the practicing and pushing skill level."
Minglong blushed and ducked his head nodding a bit. He said, "Yes, one of, Yongji and me, we are part of a, there are four of us, who are all together like that." He winced a little bit at how he stuttered over his response, but he always found it rather hard to explain.

Remi made a face, "I don't like a lot of work. Just getting to play is enough for me then." He said. He nodded, feeling a bit tired all of the sudden, "Maybe I'll try for the small group but first chair just seems like too much work." He considered.
His eyes widened and his mouth dropped open. "Bloody hell mate, how did you manage that?" He asked. He didn't know anyone who would willingly go into a polyamorous relationship, though he'd seen things like documentaries or special episodes of tv shows about it. It was weird to him, admittedly, but he could only imagine what it would be like to constantly be surrounded by a significant other.

MingLong just nodded in response to Remi's comment about work. He didn't entirely understand why someone wouldn't work hard on something that they really cared about, but he also knew that he was a little bit unusual in that. He was about to ask more music questions when Remi asked about the relationship, and MingLong had to think for a long moment to formulate his response. At last, he spoke hesitantly, "We all got placed in dorms together last year. It sort of just happened at first, but then we had to do a lot of the communication. It is a lot of balancing, but to me it is worth it. Though sometimes logistics are hard."
He looked up at the sky as they walked out of the building and said, "So you know my relationships, what about you?" It wasn't like it was a secret, but it felt a bit uneven letting Remi know so much about himself.

Remi nodded, listening with an actual interest, because he never knew how poly-anything worked in relationship to love, and it was truly interesting, even though he probably would never be able to tolerate more than one Mikkie. He got an idea pulling out his phone and opening an app before continuing. He knew what Minglong was implying, as admitting to a polyamorous relationship wasn't something easy, so he decided to cave and potentially make a new friend by telling them about his schizophrenia again. "You're Chinese, right?" He muttered, but kind of knew the answer already based off the other man's name. He typed the word into his translation app. "I have schizophrenia." He said, showing him the phone, "I don't know if that's the right word, cause I only know English and some Korean. But it's kind of why I was the way I was earlier." He said simply, looking off to the side at the ground.

Minglong glanced curiously at the screen, but thinking about it, realized he already knew the word. He nodded though and said, "I took a psychology course here last term, so I actually knew the word in English, but yes, that is the right word in Chinese. Translate apps are better at terms in general than they are at sentences. It is good to see that I got something useful out of that course other than knowing that I do not want to major in the psychology."
He looked down for a little bit, trying to sort out the right response to what Remi had just said to him. That hadn't been exactly what he had been asking, since he'd mostly just been asking if Remi was dating anyone, and mostly trying to take the focus off of himself. Most people around the area didn't seem bothered by the gay aspect of the relationship, but the four people aspect seemed to throw a lot of people, though they were sort of old news on campus.
He eventually smiled at Remi and said, "Well, that makes more sense than just grumpy at least, since it was a pretty out of the blue reaction to someone trying to be nice. If you try to punch me in the future, would you prefer that I react by immobilizing you again or just getting out of the way?"

Remi furrowed his eyebrows slightly as he closed the app and turned off his phone. He wasn't really expecting that kind of response, but that seemed to be the way his generation was with mental illnesses now a day. He sighed, putting his phone in his pocket and keeping his hand there for warmth. "I'd rather just be left alone, but immobilizing me is probably the safer bet." He said simply, giving him a shrug. He turned so he was walking backwards, glancing behind him before paying attention to Minglong. "So what's it like? I can barely tolerate my girlfriend sometimes. Four people in one relationship? Don't you guys go crazy or want your own space sometimes or something?"

Minglong took note of that piece of information for future reference and said gravely, "I hope that it never comes up as an issue again, but if it does, I will keep that in mind."
He thought about Remi's question for a few seconds, working on formulating a response in English, and said, "Our apartment, it has a good amount of space, and we are very careful about paying attention to closed doors. And all four of us are busy, so there are times when someone will have the entire apartment to himself. Otherwise, we communicate a lot. We tell each other if we need time alone, and things like that."
He frowned for a second, trying to finish off the thought, then added, "I am an only child, and I was lonely a lot when I was younger, did not have many friends, so I like having people around a lot."
He shrugged and added, "The same relationships, they would not work for everyone. I have not had much experience with any other relationships other than watching other people have them, so I cannot speak to the differences."

"Not going to lie to you mate, it's probably going to happen a lot." Remi told him with a slight smirk and quirk of his head. He turned back around to face forward, dropping back so he was in the same spot as Minglong. He nodded as he explained about the relationships and the housing. "That sounds nice. I can't wait to move out, though I don't think my mum wants me to." He said.
He glanced off into the distance, as if thinking or remembering something. "I was an only child for nine years, but from age four to ten I was in a mental hospital." He said simply. His face went a bit dark, "I don't like them, hospitals. They're bloody boring, definitely not meant for kids, either." He sighed, shaking his head to get the memories away, and forcing a small smile. "Until about a month ago I didn't really have any friends, either. Then I met one person, and from there made another friend. It seems to be a pattern lately. I don't know why. I'm not particularly nice to anyone." Except seonsaengnim, He thought, admittedly missing having classes with Yunjin.
"I guess that makes sense. I haven't really been in a relationship before this one, either. Or at least she calls it a relationship, because I tolerate her, or something." A coy smirk formed on his face, "It's probably easy to find someone when you need a sexual release, at least, right?." He joked lightly, figuring he wouldn't get an answer to that.

Minglong tilted his head to the side a bit and said, "When I was younger, I lived with my grandfather, at the temple where he is a priest, and I sometimes miss living there, but I am glad enough to not be living in a little apartment with my mother. But moving out was not so much a choice because my family members are in China."
At Remi's revelation, Minglong nodded, "I have not spent very much time in the hospitals, but I can see how that would not be nice. I am sorry? I hope that things have been better since then."
When Remi commented about the sex part of relationships, Minglong flushed bright red, and ducked his head stuttering, "I don't, it's not. I am not the person who you would ask about that. I am not, not interested in that. Some of my boyfriends, but n-not me. But please do not ask them that if you meet them, at least not right away, it is very awkward!"
He shuffled his feet, not quite knowing what to say in this situation, but almost painfully embarrassed.
