((Admin Note: The site's location has changed since this thread!!))Remi hadn't shown up to the first music practices of the summer term, and MingLong was, to say the least, perplexed. He didn't want to let it bother him. People got colds and such after all, but honestly, he suspected that if it was something that normal up, Remi would have texted him or something to get him to put his name down for chamber groups and such. So MingLong was very confused.
He wasn't too concerned at not seeing him in any classes. It had been rather a fluke that they'd practically shared a schedule the previous term, but he didn't see Remi in any of the places that he expected to see him the first few days. Then, when he tried texting his friend, he got nothing in return.
By day three, he was concerned enough that he decided to investigate. Remi's house still intimidated him a little bit, but at least he knew that the people who lived inside it were relatively decent. He certainly wasn't entirely comfortable around them, but at least he knew that they knew him a bit and didn't think ill of him. It still took him several minutes of waiting in the driveway to get the nerve up to go ring the bell.
He never quite got that far though. He heard a care pull up, and Remi's mother, Elena, got out of her car. She looked tired, and MingLong was more worried all of a sudden. Before he got a chance to greet her and make sure that she remembered who he was, she was smiling at him though and saying, "MingLong! It's good to see you. I've been trying to track down Remi's friends who I know I could trust to check up on him, but it's been busy. Have you heard what happened?"
MingLong shook his head, slight panic growing on his face, and Elena sighed, "No, no, don't worry too much. He's going to be alright, but he's in the psych ward again. I know that he told you about his conditions. Well, he acted on some of them at his high school graduation, and the court was very lenient about letting him just have a term in the hospital, but I do worry about him being lonely. Would you be willing to visit him? He speaks well of you, which is more than can be said of his interactions with most people."
MingLong took a while to work through her words in his head, but once he figured out what she was saying, he blurted out, "Of course! He is my friend, of course I will visit him. I have been worried because he has not been at the places I was expecting him to be this term."
Elena looked relieved. She gave him the information about where Remi was and what his visiting hours and requirements were. MingLong took note of all of it, and when he realized that he was well within the time frame, he headed over after Elena had let him free. It didn't take him too long to get there. It took a while for him to get through all of the layers of security and check ins, but Elena had given him good instructions.
Finally, he found the door to Remi's room, closed, and he knocked and said through the door, "Hey Remi, it's MingLong. Can I come in?"
The person at the last check in had said that he might have his door closed, but he was free to have visitors and not in the middle of any appointments.

Remi was bored. He wasn't really given anything to keep himself entertained here, not even his violin. He kept telling himself he'd have to talk to his mom about getting it since she had some more leeway as a psychiatrist than he did as a patient, but he kept forgetting. Mikkie visited him, sometimes, but even that was few and far between, and he hadn't seen her in a good week or so. He'd have to give her a piece of his mind the next time he saw her. She had promised him after all.
Since going off his medication, the auditory hallucinations had become constant, but thankfully most ignorable. As of yet, there'd been no severe visual hallucinations outside of nightmares. His sleep had been suffering because of it, but with nothing to do, he didn't really have to worry about throwing off his sleep schedule. They woke him up when he had an appointment or test anyway, so it wasn't like he could sleep away his days (and nights).
When he heard a voice at the door, he was a bit surprised. He hadn't expected Minglong to check on him, though he was relieved because at least it was someone. He opened the door and did a quick continuity check, everything seemed in order, and it seemed like a friend had come to visit. He grinned widely, "Minglong! Bloody hell man, it's been a while. Come in, come in. If I had known you'd be coming by, I would've cleaned up a little." A joke, as nothing really had the chance to get out of place when all he had was a wardrobe, bed, a couple chairs for guests, and bedside table. To be fair, his bed wasn't made. He plopped down on it, rolling until he was on his back, looking upside down at Minglong. He motioned clumsily to one of the chairs, "Have a seat." He offered.

Minglong followed Remi into the room, not entirely sure what to say and trying to formulate something in his head in English. It had been an impulse to come visit him right away when Elena told him where Remi was, but now he had to fly without a mental script. He took the offered seat, curling up a bit in the chair with a knee under his chin. There was something disconcerting about the mental hospital, and he worried for Remi a bit.
Finally, he said, "I would have been coming to do the visit sooner if I had known where you were. I was starting to get worried because I had not seen you any of the things of music."
He paused and said, "When I went to your house, your mother, she told me where to visit you."
He paused again, longer this time, and then curiosity got the better of him, and he asked, "What happened?"

Remi smirked rolling so he was propped on his elbows, looking at Minglong. "A while ago, I noticed my medication was starting to wear off, so I stopped taking it. Then the mood swings and stuff, personality shift. blah blah blah, long story short, I blew up the high school science building. No one was in the building, so it was just structural damage. A sort of... 'F you' to the dullness of high schools in America. Quite honestly, it's better this way." He looked away, staring at the corner for a bit in curiosity. He blinked back to attention, shifting so he could run a hand through his hair. He let out a sigh before continuing. "Sometimes, when none of the medicine wants to work anymore, it's best for me to just not take it for a bit, then things will work again. But occasionally I get violent, without really thinking it through, and I don't want to accidentally hurt Anya, so being here is the best bet."
He shook his head, letting out a small, empty laugh, "I hate mental hospitals mate, I really do, but I also hate the thought of hurting my sister. Because of that, I agreed to come. But it's lonely here, so I'm happy you came."

MingLong focused on Remi's words, trying his best to make sense of his friend's flow of words. His eyebrows rose slightly at Remi's explanation of what he'd done, and he shook his head the slightest amount. When Remi stopped, he said, "I was worried when you did not do the showing up for music, but I guess maybe I should have been more worried than I was. That sounds... hard? I hope that this is helping, even if you are hating being in the hospital."
He looked around the room, noticing that Remi's violin didn't seem to be there, and he asked, "Are they letting you practice the music while you are in here? I always understood that things like music are helping things when brains are not doing what they are supposed to, and it would be bad to be getting out of practice."
He sighed a bit and said, "I wish that I had managed to find what was going on sooner. It took me a bit to realize that you were not in the places you were supposed to be. This summer, it is my last term at Golden West before I start at UCLA, so I was looking forward to the music ensembles especially."
He was tentative as he said, "How long do you think you will be staying here for this? I will be trying to visit you, but I can come more often before fall comes, after that, I will still be living close, but I will be spending the long days in Los Angeles."

Remi nodded, but didn't reply, staring intently at the ceiling. Focusing wasn't as easy as he trying to let on. He rested his head on his arms, so he couldn't really look at Minglong easily. "I keep forgetting to tell my mum to bring my violin, so not yet, no." He stated simply, tilting his body so it was easier to look at Minglong. He raised an eyebrow curiously. "UCLA, huh? That'll be fun. I'm not sure how long I'll have to stay, but it's looking to be a long time. I'm still trying to get my phone back, because for whatever bloody reason they took everything away from me, but when I do I'll be sure to message you, okay?"
He propped his head up with one hand, smirking, "Yongji will still be around, right? Maybe I could get some private tutoring from him." He teased emptily.

Minglong looked contemplative for a moment and then said, "Would you like me to ask your mother about the violin for you? It would not be too much trouble for me, and I am sure that it would be nice for you to have it."
He smiled when Remi actually sounded somewhat interested in him going to UCLA, and he replied, "The scholarship that I came here on, it was for two years at the community college to improve on my English, and then two years to complete and undergraduate degree at UCLA. I have to be doing music things as a part of that, but if I want to try the picking up a double or triple major, as long as I can do it in two years, it will cover that. I am not really sure what I want to try doing, but I have told UCLA that I am a composition major. I probably will add at least one thing to it, but I have to make a decision. I have thought maybe teaching, or anthropology, or something that involves how people interact across the different cultures. It is interesting to me. I already am very far in the maths and sciences, and my mother, she sort of wants me to be doing something there because it is a good skill in her opinion, but it is interesting, but not so much what I am wanting to do outside of the intersection of people and science."
He tilted his head to the side again, examining Remi thoughtfully once more. He said, "When you get the electronics back, maybe you should be looking into classes online, not with any real major or anything, or like full time college, but something to keep you busy. You told me that you are easy to make bored, and it would be something that you could be doing here. Maybe if you express the interest in that, they will give you more access to things that are interesting. Especially if you are having to be here a long time."
Minglong rolled his eyes and said, "I do not think that Yongji would be the one who would like visiting you, but if your doctors are alright with the outside food, I will make sure that if I cannot visit as often, I can be bringing you some of BaiAn's cooking when I can to make up for it."
He smiled at Remi, and asked, "Do you think that they would find the letters OK? Even if they are not wanting you to use phone or messaging for now? Because I can write very good letters, and it would be something at least."

Remi contemplated the offer for a moment before smiling, giving Minglong a nod. "I'd actually really like it. Maybe the violin..." His voice faded off for a moment as he noticed something in the corner of the room, but was thankful it was just a trick of his eyes rather than a trick of the mind. "Maybe the violin will help with focusing, too." He finished, returning his gaze to his friend.
He raised an eyebrow, even with an unusually high IQ for a schizophrenic, he couldn't imagine finishing college in two years, even with the community college courses as a background. He'd imagine it'd be a bit easier considering Minglong was actually a community college student and had been taking courses there to get the GEs out of the way, but even so. His eyes widened in amazement, though his eyebrows furrowed. "Two years to double major? I dunno, mate, isn't that a bit... much? I mean I'm not saying you couldn't do it, but considering you don't have a car and you also kinda have three boyfriends to deal with." He made a motion like his head was exploding. "I'd go mental." He paused, before nodding curtly, "Well, more mental."
He shrugged at the mention of online classes. "I could, yeah, but we'll see. I've been doing alright in here to the point I think maybe it can be a thing, but I got in a fight with the last psychiatrist they assigned to me so I think it's cause I'm in trouble that they won't give me a computer. I may have to deal with the one in the day room before I can bring in my personal laptop. Thing's a dinosaur, though."
Remi perked up, even going to his hands and knees, and pausing before shifting so he was just sitting cross legged on the bed. "Really? You'd do that? Sweet! I still have to try his cooking, and yours, come to think of it."
He made a face at the suggestion of letter, but then seriously thought about it and shrugged. "I don't see why they wouldn't be okay with it. I wouldn't mind letters, either."

MingLong nodded firmly and said, "Then I will talk to your mother about it. It should not be too big of a deal, I hope, and if she is the one who brings it in, perhaps the doctors will listen to her about you having it."
MingLong shrugged, slightly baffled by Remi's amazement, and said, "I am going to be going to UCLA for long days already. BaiAn, he is starting at UCLA at the same time as me, in the library sciences program, and he is doing a program that is three years to complete his masters after the two years at community college. But it is a lot of hours. He has a car now, and we will be going over there together, which means getting there early and staying until sort of late, at least three days a week, maybe five, we do not have our schedules yet."
He shook his head and got back to his point, "I will have lots of time for a heavy course load, and to do my homework while I am on campus. It will be a lot of time in the car, but it is worth staying here for the time being because Dennis and YongJi both are doing a little bit longer at Golden West, and then they are not sure where they will be going. We have an apartment that works well for us here though, and there is the temple that BaiAn and I are settled at, and I have a job here, though my schedule will probably only go to weekends for the kids martial arts classes I teach at the gym. I do not know what my schedule will be at the temple for those classes, but I volunteer for those, so I can set them myself to a certain point."
He shrugged again and said, "But I am maybe able to graduate early if I only do one major, and I am interested in too many things to pass up the chance to stay the whole time the scholarship will let me and get two majors. It also means I do not have to choose exactly what I want to do yet."
MingLong smiled and said, "I will be sure to bring you a food the next time I come to visit then, it seems like the nice thing to do when you are stuck in here. And I will see how well I can write letters in English. I have not really tried that. I write a letter to my grandfather ever weekend, but that is in Chinese. I use it as a way to practice small calligraphy, but also because I miss my grandfather, and he writes back just as long letters the same way."

"Thanks, love." He said with a slight smile.
He shrugged, "Well in that case, I guess it'd be worth it to double major. Still, I think I'd reach a breaking point from that, double majoring and graduating in two years. He frowned a bit as he thought of something, "So then, once you graduate, do you have to go back to China?" He didn't want that. Minglong was one of the few people who outwardly saw him as weird (which, the older man didn't have to say it for Remi to know that), but still accepted him. He didn't want to lose him as a friend. "Or would you try to stay here longer? Can you get dual citizenship?" He asked, frowning more.
"Yes, they don't feed me enough here. Three meals a day and bloody crackers for a snack. I'm not in that kind of hospital, damn." He complained, snarling a bit. His mood boosted though at the thought of getting letters. "It'll be good practice for you, and also something for me to do, since I don't really write much anymore."

A thought popped into Minglong's head, and he dug around in his bag, coming up with a fresh as of this morning, though slightly crushed around the edges pastry bag, with two mooncakes still in it. He held them out towards Remi with a smile and said, "I got them this morning and have been snacking on them over the course of the day, but they should be a step up from the food here at least. I mean, if you are wanting them."
He looked thoughtful about Remi's question and replied, "Well, I probably will be trying to get into grad school or a job that will be sponsoring my visa, I am not wanting to go back, but there is a chance that I might have to. There is always also the option now of me marrying one of my boyfriends who is an American citizen, but that is seeming a little bit too soon maybe. Even if it is not an idea that I necessarily do not like."
He shrugged and said, "Grad school would be the option that would at least be extending that decision for a while. Or a job, but I do not even entirely know what I want to major in, so definitely not sure about working in."
He paused before asking, "And what about you? If you practice a lot while you are here, are you planning on the applying to conservatory after you get out?"
Remi had mentioned it to him once, and he'd been wondering if that had just been a passing thought or something that Remi was serious about.

Remi took the bag and looked inside, grinning happily to Minglong, "Fuck yes, thank you mate." He said before biting off about half the mooncake. He listened to Minglong, eating the mooncakes absent-mindedly. "Or you can get married to one o' them on paper for the citizenship and then having a more formal celebration when the time comes to you guys being ready." He suggested while his mouth was sans-mooncake.
His look changed to more determined, and he smirked at Minglong. "I want to go to Julliard." He said matter-of-factly. He leaned back looking up at the ceiling with a sigh. "I don't know how much I'll be able to practice though. If I can focus, which music tends to help, it'll be fine. But some days are really... really worse than others. Already." He stated simply, not caring to elaborate.

MingLong nodded to Remi's comment about getting married on paper and replied, "That is what I meant. But getting married on paper, it is still a commitment because there is legal things behind it. So it would be something that would need some thinking."
MingLong made a small sympathetic sound when Remi mentioned some days being worse than others and said, "Well, I can at least check if you have been practicing when I visit. If you want, I can bring you some of the sheet music that I have that I think that you might like and be able to learn from. I have a big number of sheet musics because I keep most of the things that I have played."
He looked thoughtful for a moment and then added, "I think that you could do it, though it would take a lot of practicing. Maybe you can ask the doctors to help you set a schedule for practicing. It seems like something that they would want to encourage."

A small "ah" escaped Remi lips as he nodded. He wasn't sure about the dynamics of it for getting married, but he knew citizenship was a pain in the rear for sure. "It really is a commitment." He sighed.
"Yes, please," He said, sounding almost a bit desperate. "Finding music online to download is near impossible. I mean, it's one thing to have to pay for downloading music, but the music sheets?" He let out an exasperated breath. "Like they don't want kids to learn contemporary shit, y'know. Not all kids can stay entertained by classical music." He paused, realizing how his words sounded, "Though do bring me the Chinese music, that is all super interesting and it's different so it's actually fun." He added.
He thought for a moment before nodding, "I guess. Maybe after something that's also consistent, like lunch or something. They've mostly left me alone, honestly. Probably cause my mom checks in so often and she's familiar and friends with like, over half the staff. Otherwise it's mostly if I bug them for something or I'm scheduled for something." He shrugged, "Probably should watch me more, honestly."

MingLong's phone buzzed in his pocket, reminding him that he had a class to teach not much later that afternoon and then dinner to prepare. He looked at Remi, wishing that there was something more he could do to help, but he sighed and said, "I am going to have to go. I have got a class to teach in about an hour, but I promise that I will be back tomorrow or the day after with the things. I will talk to your mom about the violin too. It seems like a good idea."
He paused and said, "I will try to bring you some music that is truly weird then. Maybe it will be good for keeping you entertained."
He looked at Remi, thoughtful, and then asked, "Would it be helpful or alright for me to give you a hug before I go?"
