((Thread is backdated to early fall 2022)) Remi didn't expect to be this nervous. But he and Gohyuk had a good thing going for them, and he didn't want to fuck this up. But he hadn't intentionally encountered a dog in over a decade, and the last time it happened, it didn't go well for anyone, but especially not the dog. He knew he had better coping mechanisms, and now knew the scary man he saw as a kid was a hallucination. He had gotten better at ignoring him. He had methods of determining if particularly convincing hallucinations were real or not now. Still, he kept hearing how terrible of an idea this was, and being told to attack the dog. Forget Gohyuk. He shook his head and put on headphones. They didn't always help, but it was better than nothing. He blasted his music as loud as he could tolerate. He was still pacing his room. It was about time to leave if he wanted to make it to Gohyuk's on time. He freshened up and put on a tank top and comfortable sports pants. He pulled on shoes and left the house. His mind was still reeling as he went to the subway station. What if he fucked this up? Like, really fucked this up? He had realized only recently that he liked having Gohyuk as a friend, and they complimented each other well. He didn't want to lose that. It was a lot of work to find an F.W.B. who would actually not catch feelings. A lot of the people he had encountered before Gohyuk would say what they needed to get a hook up. Remi didn't fully mind, but it was annoying constantly having to break up with people he wasn't with to begin with, and Gohyuk even agreed with him about that. He blinked, realizing he was nearing the transfer station, not even remembering when he had gotten on the subway. Remi had warned Gohyuk he wasn't good with dogs, but the other man had seemed confident it'd be fine. Remi even tried to clarify and make sure Gohyuk didn't think he was afraid. He told him he was violent around them, though didn't go into detail, but Gohyuk just looked Remi up and down and then still seemed confident it would be fine. He stood up and got off at the transfer station, noticing some people were looking at him funny. Had he been talking to himself? He didn't think he had been. But he was stressed, and he was seeing some symptoms present themself that in an everyday setting were usually not present. This transfer station was more crowded, and he ran into someone and his headphones got knocked off his head. "Yaish." Remi growled at the person, stopping himself from actually swearing at the person, who did actually turn to apologize. Even though he was aching for a fight to get stress out, he didn't need to have to make calls to Gohyuk and Thomas from a police precinct for fighting in the subway. No one would like that. He picked up his headphones and realized the people that had been staring at him on the subway were probably doing so because his headphones were leaking like crazy. He put them back on and turned the volume down a bit, continuing on to his subway transfer. He was finally getting used to using public transit as the main mode of transportation - his mom was always too worried something would happen, and so rarely let him go somewhere without taking him herself - but going through the stations at crowded times really tested his patience. The next subway ride, he was a little more cognizant, though he had to stand so he just stared out the window, checking the announcement sign for the next stop occasionally. Finally, it was time to get off the subway. As he ascended the stairs out of the subway tunnel, his heart felt like it was going to beat out his chest. He knew it wasn't because of the stairs; they'd never bothered him before. He wanted to make a good impression, he didn't want to lose this relationship. But what if he fucked up? What if he had a moment of psychosis, and couldn't stop himself? It didn't take him long before he was at Gohyuk's apartment building. He paused his music and pulled down his headphones, trying to ignore the whispers of how awful this was going to be. "Why can't you guys be positive hallucinations, why are you always so mean?" He muttered to no one. Finally, he was in front of Gohyuk's door. He had stalled as much as he could, he was actually technically late to their meeting, but it had been a flexible time frame anyway, so he didn't feel as bad. Remi took a breath and knocked on the door. ((Tags: Noh Gohyuk ))

Gohyuk was a little on edge as he cleaned up his apartment, not that there was much to clean up. He'd only been in the little two bedroom for a few months after spending all of university in a tiny studio. This was the first time that Remi was coming into his space, though it was a space that he could be proud of. More importantly, it was the first time that Remi was meeting Daeyu, his dog. Gohyuk had dressed relatively casually, jeans and a tank top with a lightweight button down tossed over it, wanting to make sure that this was a relaxed setting.
Daeyu trailed behind him around the apartment as he tidied, remarkably quiet and graceful for his 69 kg, it amused Gohyuk that he and his dog were about the same size, and that Daeyu had gotten all the size of his Tibetan Mastiff side, with all the coloration of the husky side.
He'd given Remi a time frame, so he wasn't precisely worried when Remi wasn't there right at the start of it, but he hovered not quite by the door, but close to it. Daeyu, clearly aware he was a little worried, leaned against his leg and side, a presence nearly as reassuring as he was fluffy.
When Remi knocked, not particularly late at all. Gohyuk took a few deep breaths, told Daeyu to wait where he was a bit back from the door, and opened the door for his longest lasting and most successful FWB situation. He could tell immediately that Remi was on edge, but he smiled warmly and said, "Glad you made it OK. Want to see the place?"
He moved aside and back to let Remi in, making sure that he was somewhat in between Remi and Daeyu. He added, "Let me introduce you to Daeyu too."
He stepped back, so he was beside his dog again, and Daeyu stayed politely sitting, examining the newcomer, while Gohyuk rested a hand on the dog's shoulder. Daeyu leaned his head against Gohyuk's ribs, clearly a little uncertain as he always was with newcomers.

Remi gave Gohyuk a smile, muttering a "sure."
He was noticing the dog would probably be as tall as him if it stood on it's hind legs. It was thick, too, though that was possibly just it's fur. He slipped off his shoes without taking his eyes off the dog. Some voices were saying to do bad things to it. "Um, hi Daeyu." He said to the dog simply, offering his hand. He'd seen Anya do it plenty of times when they ran into pettable dogs, so he theoretically knew how to introduce himself to the dog.
Daeyu sniffed him and seemed somewhat ambivalent, so Remi just backed up a bit and looked to Gohyuk. It was a lot easier to ignore the voices now that he knew what they were, but somehow the urge was still there. Suddenly he wondered if he had ever even mentioned to Gohyuk that he had psychopathic tendencies as a child. Maybe he still had it, and he had been faking being okay.
Remi was snapped out of his spiraling thoughts by Daeyu nudging his nose against Remi's hand. He seemed to sense Remi was nervous, which Remi had heard animals can do. He patted the dog's head cautiously, realizing the dog was yes, a lot of fluff, but otherwise all muscle. He couldn't hurt this dog if he tried. "I guess... Daeyu likes me?" He said hesitantly, looking to Gohyuk for direction. He looked around at what he could see of the apartment. "Nice place."

Gohyuk watched Remi and Daeyu's first interaction. The dog was definitely treating Remi like he was anxious, and that matched Gohyuk's observations as well. He buried his hand in Daeyu's coat and said, "Yeah, I think he likes you ok, but I also think he thinks you're nervous and is trying to be soothing. He reacts to emotions like that."
He patted the dog's head and said, "Daeyu, bed please."
The dog hopped up and strolled over to his bed in the small alcove off the kitchen. Gohyuk said, "He won't manage to trip either of us up while I'm showing you around that way. When I got him he wasn't quite full grown, but I'm glad we have so much more space here than my old apartment. I'm also glad I worked on training him with the shelter for a few months before I got to take him home."
He led Remi away from the entrance and pointed things out in the main room, "The kitchen's pretty nice, plenty of counter space and a full set of burners, which is an upgrade from my old studio. Daeyu's stuff is all in the alcove back there. He's not allowed in the bedrooms or on furniture, and he knows it."
He turned to the other parts of the common spaces, "Dining area convenient to the kitchen, though I don't always use it much. And then living room over here. The couch is comfy and the TV is newer than I would have gotten myself. But a regular at the bar was replacing his."
He pointed out doors, opening them to show what was beyond them and leading g Remi around the space, "There's a little balcony here, I've got a few plants. Might try growing some fruit or vegetables. Bathroom is over here. There's only a shower, no tub, but that's fine by me, and it makes the rent better. The guest bedroom is here next to it. I've got a futon tucked in the corner for if anyone needs to stay the night here, but I've mostly been using it as an office."
Finally, he led the way to the last door, opening it to show is relatively meagerly decorated bedroom. He said, "And my room. I'm still working on what I want in here, but I finally was able to get myself a decent sized bed and a nice mattress."
He grinned over at Remi at that and winked. Then he asked, "What do you think? And do you have any lunch requests?"

remi watched as Daeyu went obediently to his bed, impressed at the training. Though he supposed with a dog that big, training was a must. "Yeah, a bit nervous." He confirmed, though it was fading pretty fast. Especially now that he was pretty sure this dog could best him in a fight. He wasn't nervous about hurting a dog when he was pretty sure it would be quite the struggle to do so.
He followed Gohyuk through the apartment, still impressed with it. It was smaller than his current place, possibly older, but it was nice. "Uh, your apartment is nice, and it's quiet here." He said simply. At least he assumed it was quiet here. He wasn't hearing anything other than what only he was hearing, and even that was quieting down. "Uh, for lunch... Let's see..." He thought a moment, then replied, "I want the latest thing you enjoy making. I'm not picky, I just like food, and I'm not allergic to any foods."

Gohyuk smiled at Remi, it was good to see him getting more comfortable in the space. He definitely hoped that Remi would be in the space with him fairly often. They had a good thing going, but with Gohyuk graduating and his new level of responsibility at the bar, he was going to have to make sure that they established new routines if it was going to keep going.
He said, "Well, I've got ingredients for japchae or kimbap already here, one of those sound good to you? Otherwise we could order something, either prepared food delivery or groceries delivery."
As he headed them back towards the kitchen, he called out to Daeyu, "You can get up now."
The dog wandered over to investigate them again, happily accepting scratching between his shoulder blades from Gohyuk and giving Remi a patient, attentive look.

"Both sound good. What kind of protein do you have for the japchae?" Remi asked. He watched as the dog came closer, and he felt that nervousness bubble up again. He didn't know the first thing about properly interacting with a dog. He apparently did the greeting right, but that was just what he observed from Anya. He pet Daeyu behind the ears, which the dog seemed to enjoy. Or at least he didn't pull away or attack him. A smile found it way to his face, if Remi were honest, the dog was pretty cute. "What kind of dog did you say he was again?"

Gohyuk thought for a second about what was in his fridge and said, "I have chicken or tofu and would add mushrooms to either. I could potentially do both. I have some tuna and crab sticks too, but that's really for the kimbap. And I think I have some frozen fish cake in the freezer, but I'd have to check on that. Any preferences?"
He watched Remi interact with Daeyu, clearly not entirely comfortable yet, and he said softly, "He likes when you scratch behind his ears, and the area around his collar. You can really dig your fingers into his fur, it won't hurt him, though he's got a lot of fur, and you might end up covered in dog fur. He did just get his fall shed groom recently so he's not shedding all over everything though."
To Remi's question he added, "He's half Tibetan Mastiff, half husky. He appears to have gotten the size of the Tibetan Mastiff though, he weighs 68 or 69 kg."

"Chicken sounds good." Remi replied simply. "And I'm fine with mushrooms being added."
He brought his hands down to Daeyu's collar, really digging his hands in, surprised when they all but disappeared into the dog's fur. "Jeez, you fur's dense..." He muttered to the dog in English. He once again confirmed the dog was also all muscle on top of fur. "You must take good care of him, he's strong." He said louder and in Korean so Gohyuk could hear him, glancing to the other man for a second before returning his attention to the dog. Daeyu was clearly enjoying it, and he was cute. Those voices telling him to do awful things were quieting for the first time all day, seeming to realize he wouldn't be swayed this time. Because of that, Remi finally felt like it was safe to relax a bit. It was then he finally registered how much Gohyuk said Daeyu weighed, and thought back to his last check up. "That is... how much I weigh." he said, voice monotone.

Gohyuk started preparing food for the two of them, chopping veggies and prepping other ingredients where he could supervise Remi and Daeyu. He smiled at Remi visibly relaxing and getting more comfortable with the dog. When Remi commented on Daeyu being strong he said, "Yeah, he gets two runs a day. Or well, I walk him over to the dog park in the morning when it's kind of dead because most people are already at work, and let him play on the training tricks. And then I go for a jog with him in the park in the evening right before I go to work."
He chuckled and said, "Yeah, he's about my weight too. He helps keep me stronger because of it. One of the things I trained him to do when he wasn't quite so big was let me carry him, and I've kept it up. It's potentially useful in a situation that's gone weird."

Remi was watching Gohyuk out of his peripherals while still petting Daeyu. Petting him all over, and knowing the dog's exercise routine, Remi was finally convinced he couldn't do anything to this dog without some sort of weapon, of which he had none, and the voices finally quieted down for the first time since the night before. Finally, I can hear my own thoughts, he thought with a sigh of relief.
He raised an eyebrow at Gohyuk, "I'm sorry, did you say you can pick him up?" He asked, only partially believing it. He knew Gohyuk was muscular, but didn't think it was 'pick up a dog the same weight as him' muscular. He tried pushing Daeyu, not really sure if he wanted to try picking him up, to which Daeyu resisted for a bit before scooting over just slightly, giving him a huff as if to complain about Remi's pushing.
"Oh, did you want any help prepping food? I'm not like, the best cook, but I can help with preparations." He offered finally.

Gohyuk had just finished chopping things, and the meat needed to sit in its quick marinade for a while. He could tell that Remi only half believed him about being able to pick Daeyu up. He went and washed his hands, and told Remi, "You're my guest, my first guest in my new space actually, you don't need to help with food. Plus I'm done with that step, and I have to wait a bit until I can do the next one so that the flavors soak into the meat."
He headed over to where Remi and Daeyu were and said, "Here, I'll demonstrate."
He gave the dog's head a quick scratch and told him, "Daeyu, up."
Daeyu put his front paws on Gohyuk's shoulders and sort of hopped, helping with the picking up part of lifting him. Gohyuk caught the dog and held him, sort of how one might hold a child getting too big to really be carried, and walked across the room a few times before saying, "Daeyu, down."
He carefully helped the dog lower to his hind legs and then Daeyu hopped back down to all fours. Throughout the entire process, Daeyu had been very delicate and gentle in his movements. Gohyuk told Remi, "He's definitely heavy. But it's part of his training routine, and it does keep me fit. It would be a lot harder if I had to lift him from like sleeping or something."
Daeyu, now released, wandered back over to Remi and leaned his head against Remi's ribcage, as if asking for more petting.

Remi's eyes widened as Gohyuk did, in fact, pick up Daeyu. "Okay, that's impressive." He admitted, going back to petting Daeyu at the dog's request. He felt a bit awkward not helping, but if Gohyuk didn't want him to help, he wouldn't. He also realized this was the first time he'd gone to a native Korean's house for something other than a hook up, and he didn't really know the culture around it. He'd looked it up before, of course, but he wasn't really recalling what he'd read. So instead, he just continued playing with the dog, rough housing with him a little bit and moving his head around with his hands. He could tell Daeyu was letting him do this, and based on the dog's relaxed posture, didn't mind the bit of rough handling he was receiving.

Gohyuk watched Remi roughhouse with Daeyu fondly from the kitchen as he tidied and did other things to prepare before the actual cooking steps. Remi seemed to be doing OK with Daeyu, actually he seemed to be enjoying the interaction. Gohyuk played pretty physically with the big dog, but also Daeyu was very much comfortable removing himself from situations if he'd had enough. His ears were perked forward and he seemed to be in play mode, and he'd learned very early to never put his mouth on a human, or other dog for that matter. Gohyuk knew that there were still situations where Daeyu could be reactive, like if he was in a high stimulus area and felt like he or Gohyuk was being threatened, and the big dog had a decently strong prey drive, but he was proud of how well trained Daeyu was. It had taken a lot of work, but it had been worth it.
He asked Remi, "How are your classes going?"
It felt domestic without there being any pressure for something romantic, and Gohyuk kind of liked that. He could imagine in this moment living with Remi.

Remi thought a moment, still playing with Daeyu, as he tried to think of how his classes were going. It felt weirdly domestic to talk about it with Gohyuk. "Uh... yeah, they're fine. It's been pretty easy, thankfully." He had managed to sign up for one of the classes that had instruction in Korean, but it was one of the music classes where he already knew all of the vocabulary thanks to orchestra, so it was really easy and didn't worry him much. As he was thinking over his classes and Korean in general, he paused, "Wait a second," He said, "You really named your dog that?" He exclaimed.
