Sam was getting fed up. He and Kali had gotten into an argument over a week ago, and Sophie took her side so now he was mad at both of them. Ricky had been practically MIA from everything family related besides his weekly lunch with their parents and the occasional chats via phone calls, so Sam decided to hell with him a while ago. The kicker was what had happened tonight. Nicky owed him some money, which was fine, Sam was willing to wait to get it back, he wasn't hurting for money. But then the family had two auto accidents within a week - Nicky's car, and then when Sam let Nicky borrow his car, his car was also totaled (Nicky was fine, just very unlucky). To be fair, Nicky's car getting totaled wasn't Nicky's fault, but Sam's car getting totaled was. After making sure he was fine, Nicky got offended Sam was upset about this. So now he was even arguing with his main "best friend" sibling. Nicky was smart enough to not get transphobic in his comments like Kali had, but he had still said some pretty mean things. Since he shared his room with Nicky, he was currently attempting to take refuge in the living room. Sam glanced up when the door opened, and his eyes widened as he saw it was Devi. Ah, finally! A sibling that wasn't arguing with him! "Devi. Devi. Save me. I can't stand this place anymore." He said quickly, getting up and going over to his brother. He realized that sounded more desperate than he had meant it to and elaborated. "I've somehow gotten on the bad side of all our siblings. Please. Save me somehow." He begged. Tags: Devi J. Yun

Devi blinked rapidly at Sam for a few moments, startled to have basically been accosted the second he walked into the house. He smiled softly at Sam though and said slowly, "I'm just here to pick up a few things anyhow, do you want to come see my new place?"
He realized as he was saying it that he hadn't actually gotten around to telling Sam about buying the house. He'd mentioned it in passing to his mom when he'd asked to borrow the car off and on for the next week, but no one else had laid claim to it prior to that, so it wasn't like she'd had much to say. She had seemed a little bit surprised, but their parents half the time seemed to forget that he still lived at home anyhow, with his schedule not matching up to theirs. He probably could have moved out without them even noticing.
He added, "Help me grab the things, and tell me about it? I'll see what I can do to help."

"Yeah, okay. Wait. New place?" He said, beginning to head towards Devi's room before stopping abruptly. He stared at Devi like his brother had grown another head. "When did you move into a new place?!" He screeched.

Devi laughed a little bit at himself and said slowly, "I closed on my house on Friday last week and got the keys on Monday. I've been moving stuff over all week."
He sighed and added, "I'm sorry I didn't already tell you. Our schedules haven't been very matching lately. You're the first sibling I've mentioned it to though, I'm not sure the others would care."
He led the way up to the tiny room that had been his hiding place in the house for years. It was mostly stripped bare, just a few odds and ends and pieces of furniture remaining, but he'd saved the awkward furniture for last, hoping that he'd be able to find someone to help him with it from his dance company. Sam was an even better option though in some ways. He wanted to make sure that Sam knew he was always welcome at Devi's new place. Especially since it seemed like Sam might need it right now.
He added as he grabbed stuff, handing a few things to Sam, "Want to tell me about what's going on with you and our siblings?"

Samnang took a breath to calm himself, full of questions but knowing better than to bombard Devi with them. "I... See..." He said hesitantly. He shook his head to snap himself out of the daze, "Um, no, it's okay. Conflicting schedules happen sometime."
He subconsciously took the stuff Devi was handing him, pouting a bit. "Well, for starters, Kali and I got into a fight and she was mean and transphobic, and even so, Sophie took her side over it." He added in a mutter, "I just told her she was stupid for using so many credit cards to pay for shopping, and that she should use credit wisely." He paused. "Ever since Ricky moved out, he seems to think the rest of us don't matter, though he does do weekly lunches with mom and dad and then calls to hi to the family sometimes." His voice got a bit more escalated, but he was trying to keep it low, "And then, and then! On top of all that. Nicky got into not one, but two car accidents that totaled cars, mine being one of them. And even though I made sure he was okay first, he got pissed that I asked him how he was going to pay me back for the car. Like, I'm sorry, I let you borrow my main means of transportation and you ruined it. And so we got into a fight and he also said mean things, though not transphobic." Finally, his voice lowered, "I'm just tired of living here." He said softly.

Devi listened to Sam's rant carefully, making appropriate encouraging sounds to show his brother that he was still listening. He gently bumped his shoulder against Sam's as he walked next to him carrying things towards the car, glad that this was probably the last load, and said, "I'm sorry that they're being unpleasant."
He thought through his words for a second and asked, "Do you actually want to move out?"
He had a two bedroom one and a half bathroom place, and he'd thought about the possibility of a roommate. Kit had been of course the first person who'd come to mind, but Kit still helped take care of his younger brother, and their relationship was still new enough that it had the potential to be weird to move in this soon. He'd idly thought about asking Sam, but he'd not thought that it was something that his brother would be interested in really. Though they'd been getting along better and had started to get to know each other as people, as adults, there was still years of strange distance that got in between them. Sam was almost certainly his favorite sibling though, and the only one who he didn't cringe at the thought of living with. In some ways, it actually seemed like it would be nice. He needed to feel out if Sam was interested and see what Sam thought of his place first though.
As they got the last of his things tucked into their parents' car, Devi said, "How're you doing for getting places?"

"Yes." Sam replied quickly, without missing a beat. "I mean..." He backtracked, trying to gather his thoughts in a way that hopefully wouldn't make Devi upset with him, as apparently he had the power to do that lately. "We're still kind of... getting to re-know each other, but we did manage to live in a house together for 24 years and not get at each other's throats. I'd like the chance to like... continue learning about you? I guess? That sounds weird but..." He faded off with a shrug, giving up trying to explain himself. After a moment's pause, he added shortly, "I'm willing to move out but worried it could somehow ruin our relationship despite us having lived together up until now."
He put the last box in the car and shrugged, "I've been skateboarding or walking. Luckily I don't live far from work, or else it'd be more of a problem when my work days can sometimes start at 4am. I've been saving to get a new car anyway, but I'm not ready to actually do it yet."

Devi smiled at Sam's immediate excitement and then floundering about details and said, "I'd been thinking about seeing if there was someone who wanted to live in the other room, and you were one of the people I was thinking about talking to. But, once we get this over to the place, we can talk about what that would look like once you've seen it. You don't have to rush the decision. I think considering we've already lived together, it has a good chance of working if we think out what we'd want from the living situation first."
He nodded at Sam's explanation about transportation and said, "That sounds really frustrating with the car. Getting a car is something that I'd been toying with because being at the new place would mean less ease of borrowing mom's car if I need a car, but like, I barely drive places, so it seemed like a lot of effort."
He mused over the idea and added, "If you're looking at getting a new car, but need a little help with a down payment or something, and we end up deciding to have you move in, I'd be happy to help with a down payment if it meant that I could borrow the car from time to time for like errands where a car is useful, but like, it would be your car, and your schedule for it came first."
He knew he might be getting a little ahead of himself with that thought, but he'd been frustrated with the idea of buying a car when he usually drove places a few times a month at most. He carefully steered their mom's car through the familiar streets between their house and his new place, not that far away, glad that he'd had Sam to help load up the car. He wasn't even comfortable pulling their mom's car into the garage, especially with the amount of stuff currently in it waiting to find a place.
He waved at the townhouse as he got out of the car and said, "That's it, but please don't mind that it's in disarray right now, I've not figured out where everything goes yet."
[[OOC: for reference, this is the approximate floor plan: www.houseplans.com/plan/1067-square-feet-2-bedrooms-2-bathroom-traditional-house-plans-1-garage-12191 (but Devi's place is in a townhome complex, and shares the walls on one side with another unit. There is a little backyard and some trees though, and a designated parking space out front in the complex as well as a garage in the unit)]]

Sam kept quiet, considerations and thoughts churning in his head. Between the offer of living in the second bedroom - and who else was Devi considering? - and sharing the price of getting a car, Sam wanted to jump in head first. But he also knew he was upset with his siblings, and his parents weren't helping any, so of course he'd want to run away. But also, Devi was offering to help him fix his car situation, and he and Nicky had been sharing a room for so long, maybe what they needed was some time apart to mend their relationship.
He realized he'd accidentally stayed quiet the entire ride over, and he mentioned going in to look around and then he'd come back out to help his brother unpack. He slipped off his shoes at the door and wandered through the townhouse. It was honestly pretty nice. He looked at the bedroom that was empty, it seemed like a good size, though maybe because he'd always shared his room, it felt like there was a lot of space in the room. He went back to the door and stuffed his feet into his shoes without fixing the backs and went to the car. "I think..." He began hesitantly, "I'd like to take you up on both offers."

Devi understood needing to look around and mull things over. He started moving his stuff from the car up to his room and other places around the house. It was nice not needing to put the desk in his bedroom, though he was still definitely a little uncertain what to do with all the space he now had. He hoped that Sam would decide that he was interested. it would be nice to have him around.
Devi was honestly a little surprised when Sam seemed to come to a decision so fast. A slow smile bloomed on his face directed at his little brother and he said softly, "Really? That's great."
He held onto the smile, looking fondly at his little brother. He was more excited at this thought than he'd thought that he would be. He said, "Let's get the car back to the house and go grab some food and talk about what living together would look like then. If you have time? Food will be my treat."
There were a lot of logistics involved after all. Who would pay for what, would they have their own groceries or share, how would chores split up, all that stuff. There was also the matter of how much to pay for what. Devi didn't want to charge Sam much in the way of rent or anything, but maybe splitting utilities. Devi figured that they could discuss it and figure out what worked for them.

Sam swallowed and nodded, "I kind of feel like I'm jumping into this because I'm mad, but also, this is a really good opportunity. And maybe, what I need to get closer to - or back into the good graces of - our other siblings is to not live with them."
He fidgeted a bit and nodded, "Yeah, that sounds like a plan. And food will sounds great by that time."
