Remi nodded, "I'll keep that in mind. If I continue taking a high level math class next semester too, I can look at your pretty boyfriend, go to Chinese and hang out with you..." He paused, looking at the picture of Baian and smirking, "And then going to study at the library and getting to know your smart boyfriend." He took a second glance at the picture before giving Minglong an amazed look, "You really have good taste, bloody hell. Mikkie's dishy, sure, but I'm a bit jealous of you, mate." He paused, wiggling a finger in thought, "I want to try his cooking, too."

Minglong rolled his eyes again, a small laugh escaping him, "Just so you know, BaiAn, he spars with me regularly, and he will not be having a problem punching you if you are putting him in a situation where he feels the need to. I know that that does not make you discouraged necessarily, but just you know."
He flipped to another picture in his phone, showed it to Remi, and said, "Denis, the third boyfriend of mine, he is also very cuddly, not the type that is yours, or you his, but he is also pretty."
Minglong nodded and said, "His cooking though, that I can definitely make sure you have the chance to taste it. If nothing else, I can do the sharing with some of my lunch one time."
Minglong spotted a shop with a familiar sort of sign up ahead and pointed to it, asking Remi, "Is that the place that we are going to?"

Remi smirked, nodding, "Yeah, I definitely want to meet your library boyfriend, too. The third one," He paused, thinking it over for a minute, "if he's pretty, maybe I'll just admire him from afar." He teased, almost playfully. His eyes seemed to brighten at the mention of food. "You will share your lunch with me, or I'll beat you up again." He said, ready to fight Minglong on the fact that he was the one pinned to the floor at the end of their "fight."
He looked up ahead, but based off their location, already knew they were getting close. "Yep, that's it." He confirmed.

Minglong turned the phone so that it was easier for Remi to see the picture of Denis that he'd pulled up, a photo that he'd snapped on his phone while Denis was studying once, and he said, "I somehow do not think that the two of you would have a very good friendship, even by your standards, but of course I am thinking he is pretty."
Minglong found himself rolling his eyes at Remi again, something which seemed to be a regular occurrence now, and he said, "It is a thing that is good for you then that I was already having the plan of sharing the lunch with you because otherwise you would have a not very good ending of that situation. You remember what happened the last time that you tried to hit me."
He looked at the place as they approached it. It didn't look that distinctive, but he was willing to give it a try. He opened the door, holding it so Remi could go in first, mostly because he would rather have the person familiar with the menu and better in the language in front of him.

Remi looked at the picture, giving Minglong a nod. "Yongji is still the most attractive boyfriend you have, though." He finalized. "But Denis is pretty cute too. He's American, I presume?" He guessed, solely based off the name. He wasn't sure about Baian, though he knew Yongji was also an exchange student.
He walked into the store with a small "thank you," side-eyeing Minglong at the simple quip about last time. "I wasn't ready! Now I know you can fight." He argued, sticking his hands into his jacket pockets as he looked up to the menu. As they came up to the register, he cleared his throat. "Uhm... Watermelon boba, with pearls. And the chicken, level one spice?" He told the cashier before looking to Minglong, "I'll pay for you, since I suggested here." He told the older man.

Minglong blinked a few times and then told, hearing the girl at the counter call back Remi's order in Cantonese, and switched into that language, telling her comfortably, "I'd like a coconut milk tea hot with tapioca. Thank you."
The girl grinned at him and said, "I'll make sure they use the fresh tapioca, sometimes they leave it in too long but they just finished some."
He nodded again and thanked her, and then looked to Remi, telling him in English, "Thank you."
As their orders were being made, he told Remi, "They are good looking in different ways, and photos, they do not really do BaiAn justice. But yes, Denis, he is American, specifically Korean-American, and BaiAn, he is American too, Chinese-American though. His American name, it is Benjamin, but he does not use it so much."

Remi looked at Minglong as he talked with the girl. This sounded more complicated than what he was used to hearing when it came to Chinese, and Eden and his uncle used Chinese a lot. "That... was not Mandarin." He muttered simply, moving out of the way of the register so they could wait for their items to come out. A realization struck him, a he pointed a finger in the general direction of Minglong, "you're one of those people that know Cantonese too, aren't you?" He asked with a grin.
He glanced past Minglong, staring at nothing in particular. "So Denis and I have something in common..." He mused, but then raised his eyebrows and shrugged, sticking his hands in his pockets as he looked to the ground. "Well, half in common." He said with a bemused chuckle. "That's cool though. I assume BaiAn was pretty helpful for you and Yongji when you first came, no?"

Minglong nodded and replied, "Yes, I learned the Cantonese very young, though mine, it is no where near as comfortable as Mandarin. It is easier to think in than English though, most definitely. I do use it some at the temple too, here and when I was at home, so it is useful for me."
He nodded again to the comment about BaiAn and replied, "Yes, he was very helpful, though far more to XiaoYong than to me, because I could get by with the basics at least in English when I got here, though my English, it is much improved since then. XiaoYong had much lower English than I did to start with, and he is still working through the ESL classes, while I have been out of them since last term now. But BaiAn, he still helps me edit my essays for classes, and he has been very helpful in navigating what to expect in USA. Also, he likes a lot of the same poetry and hobbies as I do, and comes to temple with me pretty often, so it made things more comfortable."

Remi counted on his fingers, "So Mandarin, Cantonese, English... anything else you know? Bloody hell man, you really must be good with languages to even speak three. I can barely function just moving to a country with a different damned accent." He complained.
He made a face, "poetry? ick." He shrugged, rethinking his words already, "I mean, I mostly only know what's in school. Some poetry can be good, I guess. Just nothing has caught my interest."
He took the drinks as they were handed to them, giving the worker a slight bow before handing Minglong his drink. "I'm going to wait for my food, but if you wanted to find a seat, you can." He offered. It was relatively empty in the shop, but they tended to fill up their seating pretty quickly.

Minglong shook his head and replied, "Those three only really, though I have picked up a very little bit of Korean, and a little bit more of a few other dialects of Chinese. I do want to learn more languages eventually."
He shrugged and said, "I do not do much of the poetry reading in English, though some of it seems interesting. I do read a lot of it in Chinese. It is, I would show you some, but I do not know the translations. I could try to do some of the translating, but my English, it is not that good. I will ask BaiAn though, maybe he is knowing a good translation somewhere."
Minglong stayed standing and said, "I will wait with you, unless you do not want me to."

Remi muttered a simple "oh, I don't mind," looking to the staff as they presented his chicken. "I always thought learning another language would be confusing. But people like you make it seem easy." He said with a small chuckle, shaking his head. He led Minglong to an empty table. "I don't know; poetry's never really been my thing." He gave Minglong a sidelong glance. "I'll check it out, if BaiAn finds a good translation. Gotta try everything once, or something, right?" He asked before shoving a piece of chicken in his mouth.

Minglong looked thoughtful for a second, "Probably, that is a good idea, trying things if you are not sure, but I think that there may be good limits, like if it is very likely that something will outright hurt you. But poetry, it will not outright hurt you. You should ask BaiAn about the translations. He is much more likely to be knowing about them than me."
He shrugged and added, "Learning languages is a tool. Pretty things can be made in all sorts of languages, but communicating well, it often takes more than one, and I like being able to do the talking with people."
He looked around at the tables, spotting one over by the window, where a tree outside blocked the glare and point to it, "How does sitting over there look?"
He started towards the table without waiting for Remi's reply, figuring that the other man would catch up to him and object if there was somewhere else he'd rather sit.
He sipped the tea, deciding that it wasn't bad, but he'd had better.

Remi debated saying something about not caring if he gets hurt from trying something, but decided to keep his mouth shut on the matter for once, instead just raising his eyebrows and letting out a sigh as he stuck another piece of chicken in his mouth. He nodded about the language comment, however. "In today's world, that's very true. I'm glad I had some background in Korean though, before taking it. I'm not sure I would've been able to keep up otherwise." He admitted honestly.
He watched as Minglong tried the tea, wincing a bit, "Not the best, mate? I know... But it's convenient since it's near home." He said honestly.

Minglong shrugged and said, "It is not bad, actually pretty good, but sweeter than the ones that I am used to. And the girl was nice and made sure that I got fresh tapioca that would not melt in the heat. She said that they sometimes let them cook too long, and that is probably what happened when you got the hot one."
He got to the table and sat down, watching Remi to make sure he would also settle in at the table. He asked, "Are many things too sweet in England too, or is it just the US?"

"No, it's just bloody Americans and their bloody sweets." Remi said, making a face. "I got used to it, I guess, but I can agree Americans like things way too sweet." He explained, getting situated across from Minglong. He looked at his drink, then to Minglong's, then back to his friend's face, "so then I guess they also know Americans don't know better. I'd learn Mandarin, but Cantonese seems like an evil language to learn, all the tones and whatnot. Maybe next time I'll have you order the drink for me." He said, only half-joking.
