Minglong had noticed the little cafe near their apartment on one of his walks the previous week, and with the arrival of his shiny new laptop, he'd realized that if he wanted to, he could just go work in a cafe for a change of pace. He'd often enough had meetings in cafes when he met face to face instead of over the internet with people commissioning him for pieces of music, or when he was working with other musicians, but he'd not gotten much chance to just spend personal time in the cafes around the area, especially since the people that he was close to that he didn't live with had moved further away. He saw plenty of people at temple, but he liked being out and around people.
He carefully packed the laptop up after Baian left for work and headed to the cafe, glad that it didn't seem to busy, so he'd be able to stake out a table that he liked and people watch and have a snack and some tea while he got some work done on a personal project. He'd not wanted to focus on a commission the first time he did this in case it wasn't terribly productive.
The one downside of the cafe being nearly empty was that he didn't have time in line to read the menu and figure out what he wanted and how to say it in English, especially challenging when this was serving as his breakfast and he was only mostly awake.
He realized that he was standing there awkwardly in front of the barista, and he smiled a little bit and said awkwardly, "Hi, um, you have what tea types?"
He realized that that wasn't quite the correct English word order, sighed and said, "Sorry, um, what types of tea do you have?"
He indicated the hot tea on the menu, not seeing where they were keeping the tea to be sure.
