Jesse looked over the home, still not believing it was his. Well, he'd still be paying it off, but it was his. He had been shocked when the loan agent told him how much house he could afford. He never imagined being able to consider buying a house this soon, let alone one that was bigger than he needed. Hayako got his own room, and there was even extra rooms for if his parents wanted to visit or something. There was even a small office, and an unfinished basement he could turn into more rooms, or even better, make a woodworking shop out of it. The home itself was a little old, and would need some updates eventually, but nothing structural, so he could take his time and maybe even plan the updates himself instead of getting a contractor. Planning his cafe had been fun, but it was more out of his element than updating cabinets and door frames. The floor was a lovely dark hardwood, and the bathroom was a classic mint color that he appreciated but wasn't sure if he'd keep forever. Hayako was playing the backyard, which was large enough he suspected the kid would ask for a pet before they even fully settled. As if on cue, Hayako noticed his dad look at him and yelled, "dad! This backyard is big enough for a dog! Maybe two dogs!" "Uh, we'll see. I'll think about it." Jesse called back, laughing a little. He knew it was partially because they weren't fully unpacked, but it felt like something was missing. His mind kept drifting to his boyfriend. He and Adriel had been dating for a few years now, and he had mentioned in passing he was looking at houses, but Adriel had been busy preparing for the new school year, so they hadn't been able to see each other much while he was searching for houses. 'Adriel, I'm moving in to the house today, do you want to see it?' He asked via text, hesitating a moment before sending it. He was a bit scared to commit to living with a partner, or even asking a partner to live with him, but he kept telling himself it was different this time. He bit his lip and pressed send, then continued unpacking the living room. As he looked outside to see Hayako laying in the grass on his back, staring aimlessly at the sky, he added, 'You should bring Rochelle, too, Hayako seems bored.'((Tags: Adriel Flowers ))

"Have a good rest of your day," Adriel said, waving to Mrs. Jimenez, his student, Antonio's mother. He turned away from the parking lot and towards the field, looking for Rochelle. She was mid-jump catching a frisbee from a friend, a giant grin on hr face. Adriel put a hand up to let her know he was heading back to his classroom to clean up and she nodded, acknowledging their secret 5-10 minute signal. He nodded to Ms. Thompson, who was on field duty, and returned to his class. He began packing away his things and making sure the classroom was still in order, luckily his students were learning habits well and had taken a liking to cleaning up. Adriel reached for his phone on the desk and noticed a message waiting for him. 'Adriel, I'm moving in to the house today, do you want to see it? You should bring Rochelle, too, Hayako seems bored.' He smiled to himself and muttered softly, "you finally did it." 'Congratulations! I'm so proud of you, babe.' He then added a lame picture of a rock and ruler pointing at each other saying 'You rock.' and 'You rule.''Rochelle and I can stop by soon. Which house was this? I know you were looking at several'. Adriel looked up as the door opened and Rochelle strolled in, backpack on and ready to go. "You've been too busy with work dad, I miss Hayako and I know you have to miss Papa Jesse," she teased. Adriel put a finger to his lips to shush her teasing, "I told you not to call him that until you ask him." "But you blush every time I say say it," she continued her teasing. "It's still summer weather, I'm too tan for you to tell if I'm blushing," he defended. "Sounds like someone's guilty as charged!" she said, going to Adriel's side and placing her hands on either side of his face. "Plus, your face is a little darker now, and it's warm, so I win! You're blushing." Adriel rolled his eyes. He could never win against Rochelle, not that he wanted to. "Jesse just bought a house and he invited us to go see it, so how about we head over," he said, gently removing her hands from his face. She nodded enthusiastically, "yay, Papa Jesse's new house!" Adriel sighed and returned his attention to his phone.

Jesse sent the address when he got a notification back and put his phone back in his pocket. He was happy to be seeing Adriel, but now wanted to finish unpacking even sooner. He open the kitchen window, which overlooked the backyard, and spotted his son, "Hayako, Adriel and Rochelle are going to be over soon, did you want to unpack anymore?"
"Papa's coming? And Rochelle?" Hayako asked excitedly, sitting up. "Yay!!" He exclaimed, running around more.
Jesse blushed, he swore Hayako started using that just to embarrass him. "I told you, you need to ask him permission before you call him any sort of parental terms." He said simply. "Are you going to come help unpack or not?"
"Do I have to? I'm sick of unpacking..." Hayako whined.
"I'd really like the help, you know." Jesse told him, his voice light despite gritting his teeth.
"Fine, I'll go unpack more stuff from my room." Hayako groaned, trudging back inside.

Adriel pulled up in front of Jesse's house and parked the car. "Wow, that's a house..." he muttered to himself.
"Are we gonna move in with Papa Jesse and Hayako?" Rochelle asked.
Adriel's eyes widened, "what? Why would you think that?"
Rochelle tilted her head to the side, "because we're a family, duh. We should live together."
Adriel dragged a hand down his face, "that's a conversation for the grown ups, why don't you and Hayako just focus on doing kid things?"
Rochelle hopped out of the car and shut the door on her father, leaving him in the car before muttering, "if we left it to the grown ups, you wouldn't even be dating yet..."
Adriel got out of the car and followed Rochelle to the door, knocking. He grinned because he recognized this house from the photos, the one that needed a lot of woodwork to be done. His hands had been itching for a new project, he hoped Jesse would ask him for help, but tried to temper his excitement and expectations.

"They're here!" Hayako called excitedly, speeding out of his room and swinging open the front door. "Hi Rochelle! Come see my room!" He said excitedly, pulling her to his new room. As he was leaving, he called, "Also hi Adriel!"
Jesse finally appeared by the door, looking after the kids and shaking his head. "He says he's done with unpacking but has boundless energy." He tsked. He looked to Adriel, giving him a quick peck on the cheek. "Hey, how was work?"

Adriel chuckled as Hurricane Hayako sped by and took Rochelle from him. "Hey there, Hayako," he called after them.
"Must be nice to have that kind of energy," he said, returning Jesse's peck with one of his own. "Work was fine, the beginning of the school year is always a little tough, still trying to establish habits and routines for them."
Adriel walked into the house and turned in a slow circle, "this place is incredible. Congratulations. You did it, babe. You did it!" He opened his arms to Jesse, offering him a hug.

"Yeah, Hayako has been having a bit of struggle adjusting to middle school, but he has a favorite teacher, and it sounds like he's doing okay otherwise. I'm glad work was fine for you. I'm sure it's much more difficult to establish habits with kindergartners." Jesse replied.
Jesse smiled and accepted the hug, "Thank you. I'm still trying to believe it myself. I'm really looking forward to turning into a forever home. And everything's structurally sound, so I don't have to worry about it needing any immediate fixes." He paused, reluctantly pulling away a bit. "Would you like a tour?" He offered with a smile.

"I'm sorry to hear he's having a little trouble settling in, I think that's pretty normal for his age but it still doesn't feel good to see your kid struggle," Adriel mused. He wondered for a second if it sounded like he considered Hayako his own kid. Since he was a teacher he always felt some sort of obligation to take care of kids, even those woe weren't Rochelle but since he'd started dating Jesse, he had sort of just looped Hayako in with Rochelle. Well that's a little presumptuous of you, he thought to himself.
He hoped Jesse took it in the general sense because he wasn't sure he was ready to open that can of worms.
Adriel gave Jesse a squeeze, a mini bear-hug if you will, before reluctantly letting him go. "I'd love a tour," his eyes already scanning the place for potential projects. Slow your roll there, he thought to himself.

"No, but I think in time he'll be okay. He's still got some friends that are going to the same middle school." Jesse said.
Jesse smiled at the bear hug, taking Adriel's hand after he was let go, "So, you've seen the entryway. If we continue forward, we have the great room, kitchen, and dining area." He pointed to each as he mentioned them. "I think at some point I'm going to redo the kitchen cabinets and counters, but they're all fine for now. I'd like to put some color into the kitchen, though. The all-white is so stifling. It may end up being my first project because I can't stand it." He laughed, "It almost made me not choose this house, in fact."
He pointed to the wall directly across from the kitchen, "behind that wall is Hayako's room. In between is the first bathroom, and then a spare bedroom."
He led Adriel into the hallway, "the master bedroom is there, while the fourth bedroom is around the corner. That door," he pointed to a door between the master suite and the stairs, "is the door to the garage. And then down here," he led Adriel down the stairs to the unfinished basement, turning on the light on the way down. "Is the unfinished basement. I may turn it into a workshop. I'm really excited to have the space for woodworking again."
He led Adriel back up the stairs, and brought him to the couch. The couch felt small in the large house, since it came from his apartment, but he wasn't in any rush to replace it. It was a perfectly fine couch, just small for the space. "So, what do you think?" He asked Adriel hesitantly.
