(This thread takes place on August 28, 2020)Jesse was trying to hide how nervous the thought of this date was making him, because Hayako was staring at him from the bed, judging his every move. "The cologne smells nice." Hayako replied simply. He scrunched up his face, "But that shirt... is tacky. Sorry dad." Jesse frowned and looked at his shirt. It was kind of old. He looked through his closet again and pulled out a nice, but casual button down and showed his son. Hayako observed the shirt and gave his dad a thumbs up, then he grimaced. "Are you really wearing those pants though?" Jesse looked down at his pants, they were slacks, so possibly a bit much for ice skating, but he still wanted to present nicely. Hayako pointed to a pair of pant he had gotten recently. Jesse pulled them out, looking over the fashionably faded jeans. They were slightly like skinny jeans on him, though it wasn't the intentioned cut. He tried them on, and Hayako gave him another thumbs up. "You're ready." Jesse looked in the mirror again. He wasn't sure, but his seven-year-old said he looked good, and he didn't feel like he looked like a clown so maybe Hayako was on to something. He checked the time, Adriel would be here soon. He took a deep breath, and looked to Hayako, "You're really happy about this, huh?" Hayako nodded enthusiastically, "You seem happy around him." "We met once, how can you tell?" "I just know." Hayako said, giving his dad a wink. "O... kay?" (Tags: Adriel Flowers )

Adriel stood in front of his closet, debating what to wear. He sighed, annoyed that he'd been standing there for ten minutes still in sweatpants and a tank top. He turned when he heard giggling behind him.
Rochelle had made herself comfortable on his bed and was munching on invisible popcorn.
He shook his head at her, "no eating on the bed, remember," he teased.
He grabbed a pair of black jeans that could look dressy if he chose to dress them up, followed by a dark red sweater. He held them up to Rochelle, knowing she'd say something whether he asked or not.
"I can't tell, try them on." she said.
Adriel donned the outfit and modeled for his daughter. She approved wholeheartedly.
"We should get going before we're late," he said, grabbing a jacket for himself and Rochelle. He paused by the dining room table, looking at the single rose he'd bought early. He wondered if it was too much, but he'd bought it for Jesse, so he decided to bring it along.
Rochelle started to wolf whistle but cut herself off when her father gave her a look.
He loaded them into the car and drove to the address Jesse had given him. As he approached the front door he straightened an invisible tie and gave Rochelle a little bump with his hip when she giggled at him.
"Nervous daddy?" she asked.
"Very," he said, taking a deep breath.
"You've got this!" she encouraged.
Adriel nodded and knocked on the door, holding the rose behind his back.

Jesse froze as there was a knock on the door. Hayako was quick to run to answer it though, looking over Adriel's outfit and giving Rochelle an approving grin, "Wow, you dressed him well." He looked at Adriel, "my dad froze in his room when you knocked on the door. I'll go get him."
"No need." Jesse called, finally having managed to unfreeze and leave his room. He put a hand on Hayako's shoulder and looked up at Adriel. "I'm... sorry about him. You do look nice, though." Jesse said softly, giving Adriel a clearly nervous, but genuine smile.

Rochelle laughed and said, "he did it all on his own," she put a hand over her heart and feigned wiping away a tear, "I'm so proud of him."
Adriel rolled his eyes at Rochelle's comment and tried to suppress a grin at Hayako's snark.
His grin changed to an all out smile when he saw Jesse, "thank you. You look really nice too," he said. He cleared his throat self-consciously and offered Jesse the rose. "For you... I figured I should give it to you here so you don't have to awkwardly figure out what to do with it at the skating rink."

Hayako's eyes widened. "Wow, I had to help this guy." He stage whispered, pointing a thumb over his shoulder at his dad.
Jesse squeezed Hayako's shoulder, muttering to him in Korean, "That's enough." He switched back to English, "that's enough talking about us in front of our faces, alright?"
He returned his attention to Adriel and smiled at the offered rose. "Wow, it's beautiful, thank you." He said, taking it from Adriel gently and looking around. He eventually brought it to the kitchen and put into a particularly large coffee mug, filling the cup partway with water and placing it on the dining room table. He returned to the front door, giving the kids and Adriel a soft smile, "shall we go, then?"

Adriel couldn't help but snort a little at Hayako's comment. "We both seem to lose every time when it comes to our kids," he said, stepping aside so Jesse and Hayako could come out.
He went around the car and opened the door for the kids, then for Jesse, "are you as nervous as I am? I'm ready to get real friendly with that ice rink, I just hope it's not my face that gets friendly with it."

"We really do..." Jesse agreed, giving Adriel a small thanks and going out to the car.
He watched with a smile as Adriel got the kids into the back seat. He chuckled, "You bet I am." He said, not adding on he was also nervous because this was first date in way too many years. "If we get desperate, maybe we can just sip hot cocoa and watch the kids." He offered before finally going into the car after hearing a bit of protest from the kids, muttering another thank you as he got in. He felt like he may have been blushing a bit, but if he was, then the kids must not have been able to see it, because he knew he'd never hear the end of it from Hayako, and more than likely also Rochelle.

Adriel shut the door behind Jesse and climbed into the driver's seat. He secured his seatbelt and checked to make sure the kids and Jesse were wearing theirs. "The hot cocoa and watching the kids sounds like a nice back up plan for when my legs are too tired from trying to skate."
He pulled into the parking lot and loaded everyone out of the car. "Don't forget your jacket," he said, holding it open for Rochelle. He debated offering his hand to Jesse but lacked the courage to actually do it. Aside from that, they hadn't discussed what their feelings were about being public with a relationship. At the moment, people might just view them as two friends taking their kids to the ice skating rink.

Jesse smiled and nodded, "Agreed."
When they arrived at the ice rink, Jesse checked to make sure Hayako remembered to grab his jacket from the car as well, and looked to Adriel as the kids bounded ahead just a bit. He noticed Adriel seemed worried about something, and tried to figure out what it could be without actually asking him. Considering he barely knew him, though, it didn't work well. "Something on your mind?" He asked casually.

Adriel started walking after the kids, not wanting them to get too far ahead of them and nervously ran his hand through his hair. He cleared his throat, "umm, I was going to offer my hand to see if you wanted to hold it but..." he chuckled a little, nervous, "one, I'm not sure how weird that would be, or if it counts as moving too fast... and second, we never really discussed how we felt about...." he gestured to their surroundings, "being out.. for lack of a better word."

"Oh," Jesse croaked, feeling his face heat up. "Uh... I guess I never really thought about it, honestly. I've known I was bi since I was a teenager, but I've only ever had one relationship before..." He said, gesturing to Rhys when he mentioned his previous relationship. He thought it over a moment before adding softly, "I don't mind... If you don't."

Adriel nodded his understanding, "I've known too, but the few men I've tried to date were more interested in a physical relationship, rather than the relationship relationship part, so that didn't work for me. I've had more experience with women."
He was happy to hear Jesse was willing so he offered his hand.

Jesse nodded. He was going to comment on what Adriel said, but then his hand was being held and his brain seemed to short-circuit, and he was sure he was blushing. Their hands fit strangely well together, and it was comfortable.
Thankfully, before Jesse could overthink anything or get embarrassed by their kids noticing, they entered the skating rink and were busy getting their skates, but when it came time to pay, he realized they also hadn't talked about who would be paying for this outing. "I'll pay for us." He said softly, handing his card over to the cashier before Adriel could protest. "This was my idea, anyway."

Adriel was quite pleased at how well their hands fit together. He was also happy about the way holding his hand made Jesse seem to forget his words. He began to worry that he might be jumping in a little too fast, he didn't expect to feel this way about someone he'd just met.
He thought about fighting to pay, but knew that could be annoying so he merely nodded and said, "I'll get the snacks then."
He grabbed his blades and the kids' and lead them to a seat. He crouched down onto a knee to help Rochelle put hers on.
"I can do it myself, daddy," she said pushing him away, "you should go help your date."
Adriel stopped himself from rolling his eyes at her. "I can let you do it yourself, but I'm going to watch you and check them afterwards. Skating with loose skates can be dangerous. If Jesse wants me to help him with his skates then he'll have to wait his turn."
Rochelle humphed and started to tie her skates on, doing a poor job of it. She started to get frustrated as it wasn't as easy as she thought it'd be. Adriel reached out a hand and gently covered hers with his own, "may I help?"
She nodded and sighed, giving up.
"Thank you sugarplum~" he mused.

Jesse nodded in response to Adriel's bargain. "Seems fair enough." He replied simply.
Jesse gave Rhys his skates, and the boy got them on, but clearly didn't tie them tight enough. "Dad, is this good?" He asked, wiggling his feet.
"You're going to get a broken ankle that way." Jesse admonished him gently, going to fix his son's skates. After fixing Rhys' skates, he put on his own, a soft smile on his face as Rhys' waited for Rochelle to be done and took her hand to lead them to the rink with a cute, "come on, let's go." Though, Jesse missed the wink he gave Rochelle as he led her away.
"He must really like the idea of being a big brother." He mused to Adriel once the kids were out of ear shot.
