Appearance
Face Claim: Kang Minhee (of Cravity)
Seoji has been growing rapidly over the past few years, and he appears to be made of more limbs than he really should be since he hasn't really filled in to his vertical growth at all. Last he checked, he'd hit 195 cm (6' 5"), but he is not convinced (though hopeful) he has finished growing. He is skinny and lanky enough that he looks like he could easily be blown over by a sudden breeze though (he swears that the wind has never actually knocked him over). He's surprisingly graceful when he isn't falling over himself though. He has dimples, and rather big eyes, and a very skillful pouting face. His eyes are naturally quite dark brown, and his hair is naturally nearly black. He's curious to make some forays into dying his hair, but it hasn't happened yet. He also currently has no piercings, though he would love to eventually get his ears pierced, or at least one of them. He has freckles, and he hopes that since they aren't particularly noticeable at first glance, the company will decide that they are a charming feature instead of something to forever cover with makeup because he kind of likes his freckles.
Personality
Seoji is used to being the second best at everything, with a few glaring flaws, so he generally ended up assuming that he wasn't actually good at anything. He is still a little bit baffled at how he got through the Dreams Ent training camp, and he keeps second guessing that they're going to kick him out. As he's trained for longer, his insecurity about his position in Dreams Ent has drained a bit, but he's still pretty insecure about himself in general.
Seoji is the kind of person to make sweet gestures towards people he likes out of nowhere. This can mean bringing them food they like, cuddling them, or just helping them with something without saying anything about it.
Seoji has very little common sense, but he learns very quickly and very thoroughly. He probably needs someone to keep him from walking out into traffic half the time though.
Seoji loves people and animals and being nearly the center of attention. Even if he thought that he was good enough to be a solo artist, he would want to be in a group because quite that much focused attention sounds scary, but sharing it with four or five other people sounds perfect. He hates having people point out his weaknesses, especially when he knows about the weaknesses and is actively working on fixing them.
He can be very impulsive sometimes, and if someone he cares about has their feelings hurt, he's basically ready to fight for their sake. Hurt his feelings though and Seoji generally will basically curl up on himself and try to hide the hurt. He is very clever at things in general, but wouldn't know common sense if it bit him.
Seoji is very good at rationalizing things to himself. Sometimes things are too in his face to rationalize well though. For example, he was not quite prepared for how cute a lot of the other trainees were going to be. It is not entirely good for his sanity.
He is generally extremely good at school, having spent much of his life being the top of his class in pretty much every subject. Except English, which he has routinely passed by a point or two ever since he started having it as a class.
Family
MOTHER
Name: Tae Hayun
Birth Year: 1984
Occupation: Nurse
Feelings Toward: He loves her and respects all that she's been through, but he wishes that she was a little bit more forgiving of what he isn't good at.
STEP-FATHER
Name: Kang Seoksu
Birth Year: 1978
Occupation: Pediatric Doctor
Feelings Toward: Tentative love. He appreciates everything that his step-father has brought to his and his mom's life, but he is a little scared that he's not quite actually part of the family, especially not since his half siblings were born. He knows that his step-father supports him though.
STEP-SISTER
Name: Kang Jiyu
Birth Year: 2005
Occupation: high school student
Feelings Toward: Jiyu is possibly the person that Seoji thinks understands him the best. They both have complicated understandings of their family dynamics, and spent enough of their childhoods with single parents that they get each other's weirdness about their family seeming to get more and more "normal" over time.
HALF-BROTHER
Name: Kang Jihun
Birth Year: 2012
Occupation: elementary school student
Feelings Toward: Adoration, minor jealousy. Jihun and his twin were the first of Seoji's younger half siblings to be born, and Seoji immediately adored his little siblings, but he was also slightly jealous that they would have their entire lives with a happy family and stability. He tries not to let that one show though.
HALF-SISTER
Name: Kang Jieun
Birth Year: 2012
Occupation: elementary school student
Feelings Toward: Adoration, minor jealousy, but for some reason he doesn't feel it as much with her as with her twin. He's fiercely protective of her.
HALF-SISTER
Name: Kang Jimin
Birth Year: 2014
Occupation: elementary school student
Feelings Toward: Adoration, intense protectiveness. He wants everything in the world to be perfect for her, but he's not quite sure where he fits into that.
HALF-BROTHER
Name: Kang Jiwon
Birth Year: 2016
Occupation: elementary school student
Feelings Toward: Adoration, intense protectiveness. He wants to make sure that his littlest brother has everything that he needs to have a good life.
History
Seoji knows very little about his biological father other than that he was not particularly kind or good to his mother. She had him as a single mom while she was still in nursing school, but she managed to pull her way through school. Seoji still had a loving home environment even though it was just him, his mom, and sometimes a few of her friends who would look after him for her when she had classes that ran late. He didn't realize that this was maybe a little bit strange until he hit elementary school and started getting teased. It didn't help that he'd been sort of awkwardly tall and gawky his entire life, so he stood out.
When he was eight, his life took a rather sudden change. There was a new doctor who had started working with his mom who was also a single parent. The two of them started pooling resources for childcare, and Seoji met Jiyu and her dad. Within about six months, their parents had fallen in love and decided to get married. It surprised both of them, though at first, Seoji was almost unreservedly happy about it.
When he was nine, his life changed again though because his mom and step-dad had the twins. For both him and Jiyu, their younger half-siblings made things strange. They loved their little siblings dearly, and both of them were very protective of the babies, but for Seoji especially, who had a different family name from the other kids, he felt like there was a weird way in which this was starting to write him out of the family. He's never told his mom or step-dad that, and they've both been very loving and supportive of his dreams, but Seoji is glad that he has dreams to pursue.
For whatever reason, it's really only the twins that he ended up feeling jealous of the normalcy of their childhoods. His even younger half siblings, he simply adores and dotes on.
Seoji was interested in music from an early age, and he joined school and club choirs because that was the music that he could do without needing to pay for an instrument. After his mom married his step-dad, he actually started getting good vocal lessons as well because both of them were very supportive of his parents, and they actually had the money to support him doing singing lessons.
When he was thirteen, Seoji decided that he wanted to be a Kpop idol, and so embarked his journey to trying to get into an arts high school in Seoul and trying to learn how to dance. He had grown up in Namwon, so Seoul was over three hours from home by public transportation.
Seoji was frustrated to not take to dance quickly at all, but he practiced and practiced, so by the time he had reached high school, and managed to get into SOPA's vocal music major, he was a passable, if gangly and awkward, dancer. His mom and step-dad helped him with getting a small apartment near campus, and he auditioned for any company that he could manage. Getting turned away at company after company because his dancing skills weren't up to the level they should be definitely hit him in all his insecurities.
He was thrilled when he got invited to the trainee camp for Dreams Ent, but he was also nervous that they wouldn't think that he was good enough. He was considered one of the better vocalists in the camp (one of three to be placed into the Advanced Vocalist category among the boys), but he barely squeaked into the intermediate dance category, despite three years of pretty intensive dance classes. He was stunned to be accepted as a trainee, especially comparing himself to Tai who is a little genius, and Felix who is a very cool dancer. He hopes that he won't hold their eventual group back, so he's working really hard at dance. He is starting to grow into his role as the group leader, even if he is very grateful that the others seem to be sort of self driven.
One thing that he wasn't expecting was to basically get a built in buddy in school though. He and Felix effectively started sharing a schedule for everything in their lives at that point. During high school he shared a lot of his schedule with Hayun because they were in the same major, and he's fairly friendly with her. However, now that they've graduated, they see less of each other.
As they approach debut, he's been given a stage name of Jeoksong (means Korean Red Pine, partially a tongue in cheek joke about him being tall like a tree) because his real name is so similar to Seojin's, but he is still getting used to it.
