Devi smiled at Kit's music choice and said softly, "Good music."
He watched Kit a little bit as the other man drove, enjoying realizing that Kit really had grown up a lot. He didn't feel like they were that different in age now, not how it had been in high school.
When Kit asked where they were going, he said, "Take Aurora south, and it's right after you turn right off onto 160th in Shoreline. Right north of Central Market. It's, uh, behind the 7-11, shares a parking lot."
He watched where they were going then so that he could give directions if he needed to, but he figured it wasn't that hard to find. Even so, he pointed out the turns, even Aurora, as they got to them, and soon enough, they'd reached the little restaurant. He muttered, "I'm pretty sure that there was a fast food place here at one point, but Yum Yum's been here a while, and the food's really good."
He waited for Kit to be ready so that his friend could lead the way into the restaurant. His friends all knew that he would much rather hide behind someone else when it came to getting things from restaurants and getting seated and stuff.

Kit followed the directions Devi gave him, pulling into the restaurant parking lot not before long. He narrowed his eyes, trying to remember if he'd gone to the fast food place he was talking about. "I think you're right about that, but I can't remember what it was. He noticed Devi hang back a bit once they were out of the car, and, in an unexpectedly bold yet impulsive move, took his hand and led them into the restaurant, making sure Devi couldn't see his face. His whole body felt warm, so he had no doubt he was blushing at least a little.
As the waitress sat them down, he tried to keep his face hidden behind the menu until he felt like he'd stopped blushing, trying to secretly fan himself a little. How pathetic, He thought to himself, mentally shaking his head, Can't even hold his hand without completely freaking out about it.

Devi was startled when Kit took his hand, but he stepped a little bit closer, letting their shoulders bump together lightly. He didn't quite know what it meant, but he suspected that maybe it did mean something. It felt comfortable though. He sat across from Kit at the little two person table, glad that the seating was tight enough, and they were both tall enough, that he had an excuse to gently bump their knees together under the table, since he'd lost the contact of holding hands.
Kit seemed uncomfortable with something though, so he didn't push it. He instead said, "You know this food better than me, pick something I'll like? Maybe with chicken?"
While he'd eaten at the restaurant before, he was curious what Kit would gravitate to, and he also wanted to know what Kit would want him to try, and if it would be something that he already ordered or something that wouldn't have occurred to him. He was a fairly adventurous eater most of the time, and nothing that he'd seen on the menu looked bad to him.
He watched Kit, trying to figure out what the other man was thinking and smiled gently at him.

Kit was thankful for Devi not making a big deal out of the hand holding, and it helped him to calm down enough to focus on Devi's question. He glanced over the menu, trying to find something Devi might like. "Uhm... possibly the Kao Soi Gai? Or maybe Panaeng Curry... I was planning to get the Graplau fried rice, which you're welcome to try, or have, I guess." He finally felt like he could look at Devi's face without blushing, and returned the smile with a shy smile of his own. He looked back over the menu, turning it to the back to try to check if they had drinks listed, adding on, "Oh, you might also like Phad King." He smiled, "And I'm going to get a Thai iced tea for myself as well."

Devi looked at the first thing that Kit had mentioned, carefully working his way through reading it one the menu. It sounded good, and like something that he'd had in SE Asia that had been delicious. He said, "Kao Soi Gai sounds delicious, and like it would be properly spicy. I'll get that and a Thai iced tea too."
He considered asking if Kit would order for him, knowing that the odds were high that he would stumble over the order as he made it. He didn't want to make Kit feel like he needed to do so though.
He added with a little smile, "Might try some of yours though."
He watched Kit from across the table. He had missed Kit while he'd been abroad, but he was kind of glad that Kit had gone and come back. He'd still thought of the other man as a kid, the crew's baby member to protect, when Kit had left, but the distance and how much Kit had matured in the intervening time had made him seem like he was actually an adult too now. He'd have felt bad about what were definitely crush shaped feelings if they'd started developing without the break of Kit being away, even if it was now, when they were all adults, and the age difference really wasn't that strange at all. It just would have been the having known each other for so long that would have made it strange.

Kit nodded, tellingg him, "I can order for us." He figured it was something Devi would want to ask, knowing the other man wasn't confident in his speech, and it was something simple that Kit didn't mind doing. Plus, he could keep up his restaurant vocabulary in Thai, which was honestly just an added bonus.
As the waitress came to their table, he ordered their meals and drinks in Thai, and handed her the menus, and it was only when he returned his attention to the table did he notice Devi was looking at him. He felt like the blush returned to his face. "What is it?" He asked, his voice unintentionally soft.

Devi wasn't terribly bothered by being caught staring. He figured that Kit would figure it out sooner or later, and he figured that they were good enough friends that it would fall out alright whichever way it went. He smiled softly back and said, voice soft, "You're cute. Also awesome for doing talking."
He didn't say more, figuring that Kit could take that in the direction that he wanted to, and now Devi was slightly embarrassed. It had been an impulse to say that, but it had come out of his mouth, and now it was out there between them. He didn't stop watching Kit though until their Thai iced teas arrived at the table and he stuttered slightly over thanking the waitress, looking away from Kit at last.
He turned back to him after stirring his drink and taking a sip, pleased that it was excellent as always. He hoped that he hadn't just made things awkward.

Kit felt his cheeks heat up at the compliment, and he wished he still had the menu to hide behind. "Thanks," he said very quietly, before adding louder, "no problem."
Kit was fumbling for something to say, not realizing it took him long enough for their drinks to come out. The cool tea helped to calm his thoughts, but he was still grasping at straws to think of where to lead the conversation next. Eventually, his mouth decided for him, as he muttered, "you're not bad looking yourself," before his brain caught up to his words and he hid his face in his hands in instant embarrassment. "I'm sorry. That was really corny." He eventually said through his hands. "Doesn't mean I didn't mean it," he said, his words coming out very fast, "but still corny."

Devi looked at Kit through his lashes, face down turned just a little bit. OK, he was pretty sure that there was interest happening from both of them. He wasn't going to push it just then, not in a relatively busy restaurant, but he turned the idea over in his head. At Kit's return complement, he murmured, "Thanks."
He was glad that their food came out when it did, giving him something to busy himself with. He watched Kit though, and after he tasted his food, he told Kit, "Thank you for the recommendation, this is really good."
He stayed quiet for a while, just watching Kit and wondering where hanging out this night would take them. Suddenly something popped into his mind, and he muttered, "Do you think that the rest of the crew set it up to be just us tonight?"

Kit was thankful for the timing of the food coming to their table, and quickly busied himself with eating to avoid further embarrassing himself. At Devi's comment, he smiled, saying simply, "I'm glad you like it."
He paused as Devi commented on the other crew members, realizing it did seem far too convenient that all of them happened to be busy or suddenly couldn't make it. He voiced that realization, adding after, "I think you're right on that.

Devi ducked his head a little bit and focused on the food after that realization. He let his knees continue to brush Kit's under the table though, glad for the relatively small space as an excuse. The food was good enough to warrant a good chunk of his attention, but he wasn't giving it nearly as much of his attention as it might have looked.
After a few minutes of not saying anything, he added, mumbling a bit, "I'm happy to get to spend the time with you."
He tried to act like he wasn't suddenly very shy that he'd said that, of where this was going for the evening, and tried to keep focusing on his food. It seemed like all of the food was suddenly finished way too fast though. It hadn't helped on that front that he'd been hungry after a day of dance classes.
He looked through his eyelashes to see how Kit was faring on his own food, hoping that he hadn't finished too much before his friend.

Kit felt his face heat up at Devi's words, fidgeting with his chopsticks for a while before finally taking a bite of food. It took another few moments before he spoke, "I really like getting to spend time with you, too." He had a moment of bravery, and he hoped he had been reading Devi correctly, and he wasn't about to ruin a long friendship, "Because I really like you, like... a lot. And I have for a long time." He confessed, suddenly feeling like his food was the most interesting thing to look at, but also his body felt way too hot to actually finish his food. He had barely said the words in just above a whisper, but he felt like he had yelled for the whole world to hear. Noticing he was shaking, he put down his chopsticks hastily and hid his hands under the table, fidgeting with them instead.

Devi was surprised when Kit told him what he did, but he could tell how much his friend, maybe crush, probably crush, was shaking, how nervous he must have been to say that. When Kit's hand brushed his knee where their legs had been brushing together, he reached out and snagged Kit's hand, able to give it a reassuring squeeze before he was able to come up with the words he was looking for.
He smiled at Kit though, trying to formulate what he wanted to say, and hoping that Kit knew him well enough to understand that he took forever to talk, especially when it was important to him.
Finally, he started talking, slowly and stumbling over his words in a few places, hoping that Kit would listen all the way through, "You've been one of my best friends for a long time. I care about you a lot, and I don't want to mess that up. But I also think that I do like like you, which is new since you came back from Thailand. Before that, I thought of you as the group baby, and I want to be honest with you about that. You've grown up a lot, and I was able to see that because you went away and come back. I think that you're ahead of me on knowing about those feelings though."
He paused for a second, squeezing Kit's hand again and said softly, "That doesn't mean that I'm not interested in seeing where this goes. I am. I just want to make sure that we take it slow and careful and watch out for each other."
Suddenly feeling really vulnerable having this conversation in such a public place, even though they weren't speaking loudly, and there was enough ambient noise in the restaurant that someone would have been trying to listen to hear what they were saying. He said, "When you're done with your food, let's go get that desert from Central Market and go to the beach and we can talk more there?"

Kit jumped as Devi grabbed his hands, and he looked up at the other man with wide eyes. He felt lie his heart went on an emotional roller coaster just in the time it took for Devi to start talking, and though he was patient with Devi still, the seconds it took for him to speak seemed a lot longer than usual, then went on a whole different kind of roller coaster. He eventually let a shy smile spread across his face, and he gave Devi a nod, his head lowered. It wasn't a no. It wasn't what he was expecting per say, but it wasn't a no. He was okay with that. He reluctant separated their hands and finished up his food pretty quickly, only getting just over halfway before his stomach decided it was full. Or queasy, he couldn't quite tell, but regardless, he was done eating. He politely called over the waitress and asked for the check and a to-go box, looking back to Devi. "I can't wait for dessert." He said with a short laugh.

Devi was glad that Kit finished pretty quickly, though he wondered if Kit's nerves were why he had so much leftover. He was glad that they were headed out though. He pulled out enough cash to cover half the check and tip, so that they would be able to handle paying quickly.
He asked, trying to keep his tone light, "Any idea what flavor of cheesecake you want to get?"
He figured they could either get something to share or each get their own small thing, but he didn't want to talk about the private stuff in a place that was so public. He was flutteringly happy about the idea of whatever this was with Kit, but he didn't want to push too fast for his own comfort. He didn't know where they were in relationship experience in contrast to each other. It lingered in his mind that he was the elder of the two, but he had meant it when he said that he had realized how much Kit had grown up while he was away.
