Anlan is about 165 cm/5' 5" so neither tall nor short. That's probably the most consistent thing about her appearance. She sometimes wears her hair long and sometimes wears it short, and she regularly dies it, and styles it, so even if you saw her last week, the odds of it being different are pretty high. Sometimes she is very very masculine, and sometimes she's more feminine, though she does regularly go for some level of androgyny in her style. Her hair is naturally black, but it wanders all over the range of natural hair colors and into a few unnatural ones too. Her eyes are a dark honey brown that is almost amber in color in certain lights. She's very fit considering her job often has her lifting engine parts about as heavy as she is. She's not got any tattoos yet, but it's only a matter of time. She does have her ears pierced, but she doesn't always wear earrings or both earrings depending on her mood and style that day.

While Anlan can be pretty quiet, she is really good at well timed jokes and dry, sarcastic humor. Generally her twin is her most common audience to these jokes.

Anlan likes machines, taking them apart, putting them back together, fixing them, pretty much anything about them. From fixing her dad's bike when it broke when she was six and he thought he would have to get a new one onward, she's pretty much never stopped tinkering with things and generally she always has some sort of project on (she currently restoring a classic motorcycle).

Anlan has always been very protective, of her twin, of her friends, of her little brother. She doesn't like hearing bad things about others, and she will stand up for them. This did lead to her getting in a rather ludicrous number of fights while she was in school.

Anlan messes with people, especially around their perceptions of sexuality, gender, and various things about her, because she finds it entertaining, especially if people try to mess with her twin. While she is perfectly happy with identifying as female, her gender presentation varies wildly, and she pretty regularly confuses people. She has a small group of very close friends, and is generally very protective of them, but she's easy enough to make friends with in general, even if it takes a long time to get close to her. She constantly needs something to tinker with or else she gets bored.

Feelings Toward: Anlan and her mother have a sort of mixed relationship. While they definitely love and care for each other deeply, her mother sort of thinks that Anlan is wasting her intelligence as a mechanic. She tries to be supportive because Anlan clearly loves what she does, but sometimes things get a little tense between them because of it. Her mom also sometimes doesn't know what to do with the fact that Anlan seems to have no clear settling down tendencies. They have been much closer since their parents divorced.

Feelings Toward: Anlan and her father used to be relatively close, mostly because his main way of relating to her is to listen to whatever she has to say and support her. He's certainly willing to criticize her and choices she makes, but he was always good about explaining why he is doing so, so she tended to take it better. After their parents' divorce and the reason behind it, she feels a vague hatred/distrust towards him that she doesn't really know what to do with.

Feelings Toward: Anlan is less than an hour older than her twin, but she will never let them forget that she is the older one. Most of the time though, that is because she is incredibly protective of them. She took the idea of Anbai being genderfluid completely in stride, contemplated if it fit her as well and decided it didn't. They have been a unit all their lives, and she wishes that she could make it clear to Anbai that no matter how many people she dates and how many friends with benefits she has there is never going to be anyone else in her life who can take their place.

YOUNGER BROTHER
Name: Davey Anlíng Wang (王安灵)

Feelings Toward: Anlan is very protective of Davey, especially because he is so vulnerable. She has spent a lot of time with him making sure that he was doing ok on his homework and just helping him with whatever she could. She tries her best to teach him things that she thinks he might find interesting outside of the stuff that he has to for school, especially learning things that he can do with his hands.

Anlan was the first child in her family by a whole 45 minutes before her twin was born. The two of them grew up in Malaysia for the first 12 years of her life before they eventually moved to Washington when she and her twin were in middle school. She was always her twin's protector, fighting bullies for Anbai on the playground and arguing with just about anyone who dared to be mean to her precious twin. She rarely got in trouble for the fights, mostly because the vast majority of the time, whoever she got in a fight with was too embarrassed to say anything.

She started to show a really high mechanical aptitude when, at six, she fixed her dad's bike after it had been hit by a driver when it was chained up in front of their house. He'd thought he'd have to sell it for scrap because the gears and wheels were so messed up, but she was able to make it all work again. At the time, she just thought that it was a puzzle, but it wasn't long before she was fixing all sorts of things around the house and for friends and neighbors.

When they moved to the US, and she had electives for the first time, she put all of them into classes like auto shop and metal working and various other hand crafts. Despite the fact that she earned straight As all through school and went up to a high level in all the standard subjects, she didn't go to university after high school and instead enrolled in an apprenticeship program as an airplane mechanic at SeaTac Airport. She was the only girl in the entire program, and at first people were kind of nasty to her about it, but she excelled and graduated the program the fastest and with the highest recommendations of anyone in her entry group. She took the job that was the continuation of the program at SeaTac because she wanted to stay close to home. It was a long commute, and recently, with the opening of Paine Field in Everett for commercial flights, she's been able to get a transfer up there, which means a much better commute while still living with her twin.

When she and her twin were 16, their mother got unexpectedly pregnant, and shortly after they turned 17, Davey was born. When Davey was a baby, Anlan had very little interest in him, but as he got to be the age where he was communicative, and it started to be clear that he would need a lot of help with all sorts of things, Anlan's mile wide protective streak kicked in and she actually bonded very closely to the kid. She likes to help him with things, especially with learning new skills.

From a romantic history standpoint, Anlan figured out that she was interested in women around the time she was 13, shortly after they moved to the US. She didn't tell anyone for about six months, and then she developed her first serious crush. Her twin was the first person she told, and Anbai was boggled at first, so she didn't talk about it much with them for a while afterwards. She did eventually tell her parents when she was about 15, but she'd dated three girls before then. She dated a fair amount during high school and beyond, but never really got serious with anyone she dated. She eventually decided that she was probably bi, because she's had some attraction to guys here and there as well non-binary folks fairly often, but she has only ever dated women, and has slept with a man exactly once (which she was not super excited about later). Around the time she started her apprenticeship program, several of her relationships started wandering more into the friends with benefits sort of territory, and for the past several years, those have been the form of most of her relationships, and she normally has between three and five people who would fit that category among her friends. They're all on the same page about it, and it varies as people get in and out of serious relationships. She knows that her twin is not thrilled with the idea of her being in a long term serious relationship, and she has not yet figured out how to make it clear to them that no matter what relationships she has, none will ever take the place of her relationship with her twin.

After it was discovered that their father was mistreating their younger brother, their mom divorced their dad and got custody of Davey. Alan and Anbai moved into their own apartment, living apart from their family for the first time. For a while their mom and little brother were living across the hall from them, but their mother has since bought a little two bedroom townhouse not very far away, and she is settling in. While the twins still take care of Davey often, he's a little bit less constantly in their apartment, which for all that Anlan adores her younger brother, she's happy for because she likes being able to live in her own adult space. She is able to have her friends with benefits over when she feels like it, though she tries to keep it from impacting Anbai much (fortunately, a lot of them have strange schedules, and thus are able to hang out when Anbai is at work).
