Face Claim: Lee Chaeyeon
Seojin is 165 cm (5'5") and lean and muscular for her height. She has a lot of muscle from years of dancing and just being generally active. She's a little bit willowy in build, with long arms and legs for her height. She's got long (lower mid back length), naturally very dark brown hair that she sometimes lightens a little bit or puts temporary colors into (purple is generally her favorite). She has her ears pierced once in each lobe, and isn't sure if she'd be interested in more or not at this point. Her style of dress often runs casual and tomboyish (among other things, she really likes flannel and flannel look shirts), but she can occasionally be found wearing skirts (mostly she's just used to them from years of school uniforms). The only makeup that she's really fond of is eyeliner, but she's gotten pretty good at applying it because she's been trying so long to get through auditions, and little things like that can help. She doesn't have any tattoos and currently doesn't have any plans on getting any. She hasn't got any terribly noticeable scars, though she's got a few on her knees and elbows.
Personality
Seojin doesn't give up, and she tends to know her own mind pretty well as far as what she wants to do. This means that she is someone who tends to eventually get to where she wants to be. It may have taken her three years of auditions before she got into Dreams Ent, but it's a very wonderful feeling to have gotten through one of the things that she's been working on for so long.
Seojin likes helping others. She takes people under her wing and helps them with things when she can. She especially tends to kind of adopt kids younger than her who seem lost (see Anya). Seojin is a bit of a natural leader, which helped her a lot when she moved more than once as a kid. While she didn't necessarily always have the closest friends, she tended to accumulate people who wanted to be around her. With respect to her goals, it turned out that part of what made her look good in the Dreams Ent auditions was taking the lead and helping choreograph and arrange good performances with good team dynamics.
Seojin hates the feeling of failure, but it doesn't make her give up or stop having a goal, it just makes her more determined to work hard. She's a pretty laid back person outside of her goals and dreams, but she is going to get to the stuff that she cares about. She's quite smart, but she's had pretty much one goal since she was quite young: becoming a kpop idol. She's well on her way to that now, but she promised her parents that she would do well in school and leave herself options, so she's glad that she's nearly done with high school. She is sometimes a little bit frustrated by the fact that she has a lower register voice, not because she dislikes it, but because it's seen as the less useful vocal range in kpop a lot of the time, but she's happier about it recently because she was praised for singing in her comfortable range.
Family
MOTHER
Name: Dang Hwanhye
Birth Year: 1972
Occupation: professor in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Kangwon National University
Feelings Toward: Deep affection and respect, but also a fair amount of distance. Her mother was always the parent who was out of the house more, and since their return to Korea right before Seojin started high school, they've only seen each other on the weekends most weeks because they've been living in different cities.
FATHER
Name: Woo Jungyeong
Birth Year: 1979
Occupation: manager at an international hotel chain
Feelings Toward: Very close. Her father has always been her more present parent, and he's always been very supportive of her. While he has a successful career in his own right, the families lives had always been sort of driven by her mom's career, and he was the parent who was able to do things like take Seojin to work. She's a little bit sad that he's going to be returning to the Chuncheon branch now that she's going to be living in the dorms, but she's also really happy that he will be able to actually be with her mom and little sister.
YOUNGER SISTER
Name: Woo Seomi
Birth Year: 2015
Occupation: elementary school student
Feelings Toward: Love, caring, a bit perplexed. Seomi was still a baby when Seojin started high school, and she lives in Chuncheon with their mom. She's starting to be a bright, curious child though, and Seojin wishes that she had more chances to spend time with her little sister. There's a very small part of her that wishes that her mom had been as present in her early life as she is in Seomi's, but that is the fault of nothing but circumstances.
History
Seojin was born and lived the early part of her life in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do, South Korea. Her father worked for an international hotel chain as a manager, and her mother was a professor in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Kangwon National University. Seojin started doing ballet when she was very young and fell in love with dancing. Soon, she had branched out to several different styles of dance. She also joined school choirs from a very young age because she loved music as well. When she was around seven or eight, she became aware of Kpop when she saw one of F(x)'s early comebacks, and she decided that she wanted to do that someday.
When she was nine, her mom got a four year research exchange to UC Davis in California, and the entire family moved there for the four years. Her dad was able to get a temporary transfer for the duration as well. Seojin finished elementary school and did all of middle school in Davis. There, she started to realize that she was probably, maybe, definitely interested in girls, and not boys. She kept this a secret, but she definitely started picking up some of the trends that she saw codified as maybe showing her sexuality a little bit. If nothing else, she gained a love of flannel shirts that she still has to this day. She was very tomboyish, but she kept on having a very high interest in dance, and she got to pick up some styles in the US that she hadn't been exposed to before.
Right before they left the US, her mom got pregnant with her younger sister, Seomi, who was born very shortly after they returned to Korea. They returned to Korea in time for her to apply to and start high school, and after applying on a bit of a whim, Seojin was surprised and thrilled when she got admitted to Seoul Arts High School. Her parents accepted her choice because the school had such a good reputation for academics alongside the arts curriculum. To help support her chances, her father got a transfer to the Seoul branch of the hotel that he works for, and the two of them lived in a hotel manager suite in Seoul while she started attending high school, going back to Cheongnam to see her mom a few times a month, and her mom coming to visit them there a few times a month.
She got permission from her parents to audition for Kpop companies only if her grades stayed in the top bracket, but she was determined, and she maintained her grades and took extra dance and music classes to prepare herself, even at one point getting a part time job to help pay for special classes. While her parents still aren't sure that they understand her motivations, they do admire how hard she's worked for her goal. She had auditioned for about six other companies, and gotten some interest, including getting to second or third rounds of auditions, but none of them had brought her on as a trainee.
Dreams Ent was the chance that she'd needed though. She did extremely well during the audition camp, and was able to make it through to their trainee group. They have plans to debut a girl group sometime within the next few years, so she's hoping to finish high school and then debut not too long afterwards. She's moved into the trainee dorms, and her father transferred back to the Chuncheon branch of his hotel so that he can live at home with Seojin's mom and little sister again. She's sad that he's farther away, but glad that the rest of the family is together, and it's not that long a trip (especially not compared to some of the other trainees who are international).
She graduated from Seoul Arts High School (Yego) in February 2020 and debuted as the leader and main dancer of JBN in June 2020.
