Samnang nodded, "I did. So did all my siblings." He said. "But depending on your age, you probably were in classes with my siblings more than me." He said simply. He had a feeling Allen was a bit older than him, but not by much. He wasn't sure on that, but somehow Allen seemed a bit familiar too. Samnang didn't really strive to get ahead when he was in high school though, and even though he typically kept a 4.0 GPA, or at least close to it, in high school, he hadn't done much in the way of honors or advanced classes. He shrugged, "And honestly, a lot of times, the general populous in our age range went to the same high school, and whether one realizes it or not, you get used to seeing each other on a day to day basis, even if you just pass each other in the halls." He said simply.

Allen nodded and said, "I was born in '95 but I got bumped up a total of two grades between elementary and middle school, so I was mostly with people born in '93 or sometimes '92 in school. I don't know how that fits in with you or your siblings though. Doesn't help with that all that much that I was kind of in and out of school because of medical stuff my Junior and Senior years."
Allen laughed a little bit at the statement about all of them seeing each other, and he said, "I sometimes forget that a little bit, that we all kind of saw each other, because I was still living here but commuting out to UCLA for a while. I'm back here full time though because I managed to get a job in town. I know it makes my mom feel better that I'm so nearby still."

Samnang nodded, smiling, "Oh! You're only a year older than me then! Though it sounds like you were in classes with my brother and sister though. Did you ever have Nicky or Sophie Yun in any of your classes? Uhh, Nicholas and Sophea are their full names." He asked, seeming to get excited about their age similarities. "Sophie was in a lot of advanced classes, but Nicky not so much." He added with a laugh. He seemed to be contemplating something for a bit before nodding, "My mom is kind of the same way with me, since I'm the youngest. She was really relieved when I told her I only applied to the community college for now." He admitted with a laugh. "Who knows what she'll do if I tell her I've been looking at colleges all over the country."

Allen thought about the names of Samnang's siblings for a minute, trying to place them, and then he smiled and said, "I had math and science classes with your sister. I think we may have even done a chemistry lab together once. But I think that I may have been in PE with your brother my junior year, which is perhaps, unfortunate."
He shook his head and asked, "Is there anywhere in particular you want to go?"

Samnang tilted his head to the side curiously, "Unfortunate, huh?" He let it go for a moment as he perked up, "Oh! That's also about the right age for my best friend. Jiuk Robertson? Though by high school he was going solely by Z. He transferred in the middle of his junior year." He debated mentioning the news articles that made Z somewhat of an infamous celebrity by the time he transferred, but decided to wait and see if Allen recognized the name to begin with. "He was born in the middle of 1993, though, so it's possible you could've missed him barely. That and he also didn't take many honors classes. He did English honors and AP, though." He explained.
He smiled, "There are a few places that seem like nice places to live in general; NYU and Penn State are being considered, but also Seattle State and UC Long Beach. But my biggest issue is I went into community college to figure out what I liked, and I've taken like a billion different courses and am still undeclared." He said honestly, laughing. "Psych or Linguistics is interesting though. But I got a B- in Linguistics so I'm not very good at it regardless of whether or not I like it."

Allen paused for a second, trying to place then name, then he nodded and said, "Ah yes, Z was in my English classes, but he transferred in right around the time of my dramatic lung collapse, which is why your brother being in my PE classes was unfortunate, because it happened in class. So I never really got a chance to get to know Z because I was in and out of the hospital for the rest of high school."
Allen shrugged and said, "A B- isn't a bad grade either though, and if you liked it, maybe you should take another class and see how it goes. I mean, I had no idea what I wanted to do before I started taking classes at Golden West while I was still trying to sort out health things, and I basically ended up stumbling on something I loved doing my arts requirement. You've still got time to figure things out, especially if you're still at Golden West. My mom still kind of boggles over the fact that I found a job with my degree, but it worked out for me."

Samnang's eyes widened, "Your lung collapsed?!" He paused, before seeming to remember something. "So then you're the one! Nicky was so freaked out that day, within a week there were rumors saying you died." He said, his eyes wide. "I had wondered who it was." He added, "Though I knew more people that were in the GSA rather than specific classes of friends or relatives." He added with a shrug.
He let out a small yet exasperated sigh, slumping down a bit. "I know, everyone says that. That I've got time, I mean." He perked up a little, "What did you major in? I took drawing for my art requirement, it was fun but drawing is like the hobby after I've done my side hobbies." He said with a laugh. "I'm also not horrible at designing clothes, but I can really only say that because I cosplay for a hobby." He explained. He scrunched up his nose, "But with my oldest brother having a business degree from Stanford, I kind of feel like the rest of us are expected to go into 'practical' fields too." He said lowly, using air quotes.

Allen looked at Samnang thoughtfully and said, "That would be where you looked familiar from maybe then? I was in GSA too, though I didn't manage to go all that much after the first half of Junior year. I didn't feel like I got to know the freshman my Junior or Senior years very well because I just wasn't there much."
Allen smiled and said, "I majored in Photo-Journalism. I've got a job with a fashion magazine here now, so I spend a lot of time taking photos of people in fancy clothes and then writing blog posts about it basically. And they pay me for this, which kind of amazes me."
Allen looked interested when Samnang mentioned designing clothes and asked, "What sorts of things do you design? Cosplay has such a huge range that it doesn't narrow it down much. I mean, practical can be good, but not if it makes you miserable. And there is an industry for clothing design around here. I mean, I'm at the other end of that industry, but I know people who do design, and they're pretty cool."

Samnang thought it over, trying to think if he could remember anyone who didn't often show up. "Maybe..." He mused. He couldn't quite recall seeing him in GSA, though, but he blamed his memory for being a bit spotty rather than that not being the case. He debated asking if Allen was an ally or part of the rainbow, but then decided to wait until they knew, or at least remembered, each other better.
Samnang smiled and raised an eyebrow, "Wow, living proof of someone getting paid for their art, amazing." He joked lightly. He thought over what he actually had designed for his cosplay. "Um, a lot of it is copying tutorials from online, but I did make an Ouran outfit that turned out really well." He said, pulling out his phone and finding the pictures from last Halloween. "I was proud of it because I was able to get it to look less... stuffy than the usual look of Ouran cosplays." He said, pointing to the jacket. "I'm learning when to use what fabrics, etc, and so I know the very basics of picking fabric, but mostly sewing and stuff." He laughed, lifting his foot up a bit and tugging on the end of his jeans, "My proudest moment was probably hemming these, stupid thing was too long." He thought over going into clothing design, he'd thought of it before, but dismissed it because it seemed like a career where you needed an "in." Maybe now he'd have one.

Allen looked at the images on the phone curiously, trying to use a critical eye on Samanang's work. He nodded eventually and said, "It looks good. I have to admit to only a passing familiarity to Ouran, so I can't be entirely sure of how it looks in comparison, but your work on it looks good quality, and the overall balance of the design is good."
He smiled at Samnang and added, "Honestly though, I'm just sort of impressed when people make stuff like that from scratch. I've never really gotten then chance to go to any cons, because being old enough for my mom to be ok with my going and being healthy enough to manage hadn't coincided for any of the ones that I could have gone to. Though I don't know, maybe I can get assigned to one from work or something. I just have to figure out how to convince them it would be worth sending me."
He laughed a little bit and added, "Yeah, the getting paid for art thing, I got lucky with it, but it's not like there's nothing that exists in those fields, and if you've got work experience, plus a degree of some sort from a respected school, it doesn't always matter so much what the degree is, as long as you can pitch your skills to someone. It's silly that the degree part of that makes such a difference because it's not always even like the skills were learned from the degree at all."
Allen thought a bit about when Samnang might have seen him at GSA, and he said, "When I would have been at GSA that you might have been there, I looked kind of different. The first time, probably around late October my senior year, I would have had long hair, down a little past my shoulders, and then the second time, probably early March my senior year, my hair was all buzzed really short because of a medical thing, and I hated it."

"I've been cosplaying since middle school, and making my own cosplays just a little bit later than that because asking people to make you costumes is more expensive than a middle schooler can afford." He said with a laugh. "After a while, I noticed the fabric most people used was practical and got the right look across, but was awkward and in the real world looked rather flat." He shrugged, clicking off his phone and placing it on the table. "So I read up on and watched a whole bunch of tutorials about how to hem and combine more than one fabric. I know the basics of making clothes because of it." He said, realizing when it came to combining fabrics, it was mostly so he'd stop having to buy binders more often than using it for cosplay.
He tried to place Allen's face with both long hair and a buzz cut, his mouth a straight line. "I vaguely remember an upperclassman like that in the club, but since I was there all four years, my memory of the first couple years are a bit spotty." He admitted. He smiled, connecting his fingers, "They all just kind of blurred together in the end, and people that remember me from club I don't remember well because it was either my freshman or senior year."

It wasn't that long before Allen finished his drink. His meds were pretty much fully in effect, but since he'd had to use the rescue medication, he knew that he should aim himself towards home considering he would have a medication crash from it eventually. He shuffled his empty cup from side to side and said, "Now that I can breathe again, I should probably start heading at least to closer to the general area where I live, but if you are interested in taking a bit of a walk that way, I'd love to have company while I do."
He moved slowly as he got to his feet, looking at Samnang and hoping that the other man would take him up on the suggestion. He felt safer if he was walking with someone at times like this. It meant that he could get help faster if he needed it, and that he didn't feel like he was potentially massively overreacting if he was just being a little bit short of breath. People tended to make faces or say things when his breathing went really weird.
He added, "I know what you mean about some of the years blending together. Before my senior year, the GSA members were some of the only people I kept track of well, but classmates and people I didn't do activities with as much, well most of them were kind of blurred together. I have a few people who I tutored or hung out with or both who I stayed close to, but even then, I've not kept in great touch with the friends I had in high school."

Samnang nodded, sipping on his own drink, only about half done with it, but willing to carry it with him. "Yeah, I'm down for that." He checked his phone, frowning a bit as he saw Nicky was planning to steal the car from him. "Just lemme grab somethings from my car real quick before my brother gets off work. It was a pro and con of them working close to each other; they could carpool when their shifts were similar, but sometimes when Sam had an earlier shift, he'd either have to leave his car or come back to pick up his brother. Because of it, he'd begun to start keeping his skateboard in the trunk so he'd at least have some sort of transportation to go home with instead of walking.
"I guess with being that sick, it'd be kinda hard to keep in touch with people." He mused with a nod. He stood up, waiting for Even though for him, graduating high school had only happened a couple years ago, he could see the huge gap even just between his friends from his grade and the current generation when it came to things like keeping in touch through social media, add to the fact that Allen was older than him, and sick for what sounded like a good amount of time, it made sense.

Allen nodded and replied, "I'll wait for you at the front of the store then? If you have your car with you, I hope that I'm not inconveniencing you by getting you to walk with me."
He headed there, testing how he felt during the short walk across the store. It was harder going into the outdoors. The air was dry, which was aggravating to his throat after the medications, but it wasn't so bad that he felt like he was going to have another attack. At least there was shade at the front of the shop, and he looked around, wishing that he hadn't had a bad lungs day, considering it was a nice day out and there was a fair amount of activity going on outdoors.

"No, no, in fact my brother wants to steal it from me, so I just wanted to grab a couple things first." Samnang told Allen with a wave of his hand. He went off to the car, digging around until he found a different shirt to wear, this one a tank top that faded from orange at the top to a deep red at the bottom, and he changed into it before realizing it was definitely Nicky's shirt, and he sighed as his binder was visible. "Oh well, this one looks more like a tank top anyway." He mused to himself aloud, clicking his tongue as he pulled on a lightweight dark gray jacket, also Nicky's, and grabbed his skateboard as well.
He returned to Allen not too long afterwards, double checking the car was locked before smiling to Allen, "Alright, I'm good to go now. Sorry to make you wait." He apologized almost nonchalantly.
