Kangwan listened to Taijia with a bit of amazement. At his age, Kangwan was still about a year shy of becoming a trainee. As the young boy began song, he instantly recognized it, smiling at the bittersweet memories that came from the song. As Taijia finished singing, he clapped enthusiastically. "Wow, I haven't heard that song in a long time." He said with a laugh. "You did very well." He praised, not sure if he should give constructive criticism or not.

Taijia was a little bit surprised to be praised by Kangwan, clearly sincerely. He was trying hard, but he knew that he wasn't an amazing singer. He was much better at dancing. He said, "You think so? Really? I lost the key a few times, and my pitch is all shaky a lot of the time. I am working on it. Uncle Jin helps me some, but I really need to practice singing more if I want to get good for real. I wasn't sure if I really could be good for real though. I would need to be kind of good though at least, if I wanted to be an idol."
He asked, "Were you already really good at singing when you started training?"

Kangwan nodded at Taijia's self-critism, but then wiggled a finger at him. "And you know what's really great? Is that you can spot all that yourself. Admittedly, I could sing a little better than you at your age - though trust me I wasn't perfect - but I couldn't hear myself well. The only time I ever noticed I was singing badly was when I recorded myself singing. You can't lose that ability you have, it's really valuable towards improving, okay?" He said, answering both questions. He smiled, "You really have a lot of potential, and usually before the age of maybe 15, that's what they look for, rather than current skills you have. Right now, you could get into a company on your dancing ability and promising singing voice alone." He said, pretty sure that he wasn't exaggerating more than a slight bit.

Taijia sat quietly for a few minutes, mulling over what Kangwan had said. He liked the idea of auditioning, quite a lot in fact, but he knew that it was too soon, and he was too young for how far away it was. His Uncles couldn't handle that move right now, and they wouldn't want him to go alone. Kangwan said before fifteen though, and that was different. There were lots of people who went abroad for parts of high school. Well not lots, but he had heard of people doing it, so it couldn't be that uncommon.
Hoping that it didn't seem to disconnected from what they'd been talking about, he asked Kangwan, "What's high school like in Korea? What grade does it start in? Is it harder or easier than here?"

It took Kangwan a moment to understand why Taijia was asking, but after a couple seconds, he nodded and muttered a small "oh" before actually replying. "Um... I think it starts in what's equivalent to high school second years here. Sophomore, right?" He said, saying 'sophomore' in English. "I think they can match you alright, and there's also a lot of international schools, but it is usually more strict in Korea. Also, the amount of respect students have is so much different." He shook his head, furrowing his eyebrows, "So much different. But it's alright, once you get used to it, like here. I think the expectations are different too." He explained, then adding in, "It's very different when you're a trainee or idol. Bullying happens a lot easier too, if you do that. But by high school, there are music high schools and it's a lot better. You can even have some classes with sunbaes, sometimes." He said with a small chuckle.

Taijia listened to Kangwan, clearly very focused on his words, a plan starting to form in his head. He nodded along, and when asked added, "Yeah, sophomore."
When Kangwan got to that part of his explanation, Tai asked, clearly curious, "What kind of respect? For who?"
Tai looked thoughtful after Kangwan talked about bullying and said, "There's bullying here too. There's a pretty nasty bully in my grade. He's probably about twice my size cause I'm a year young for my grade and kind of little anyhow. But last time he tried to push me around I headbutted him in the face and gave him a bloody nose. He's not bothered me since then. I'm not sure that it was a good solution though. Uncle Jin says I should use my words, but he wasn't listening to words. Anya said I was awesome though, so I don't think I did too bad, and Uncle Jin didn't scold me for it."
He looked over at Kangwan, curious about his response to what had happened.

"You have to respect the teachers. Sometimes they don't even let you ask questions." Kangwan shook his head. "But it's not bad. If you have any level of respect for them and you're a foreigner, you're kind of excused from it. I saw it even with my band mate from LA." He laughed lightly at Taijia's story, not sure whether to reprimand the boy or encourage him for sticking up to himself. "Well, as long as you're careful, and okay, I guess it's ok. But you should definitely use your words first. "It's hard work to go to school and also do training, but it's really worth it."

Taijia looked thoughtful for a minute and said, "That sounds hard but maybe ok, as long as they don't mind if people are just really quiet? Does that count as respectful? Quiet and does their work? Or it something else?"
Tai nodded at Kangwan's comment and said, "I don't like hitting people or anything. It's not really fun. But it was better than putting up with him being a bully lots and lots. I might be littler than everyone else in my grade, and even most people the grade below, but that doesn't mean that people are allowed to push me around."
He pouted for just a second and then smiled up at Kangwan before tentatively giving him a hug, "Thank you. I didn't want to ask my Uncles about this idea because I was worried they might be worried."

Kangwan hummed in thought for a moment before nodding, "I think that's fine. Teachers tend not to bother the kids that are quiet, or at least not that I've seen." He responded simply, giving another, more assured nod.
"Then I guess it can be excused this time. It's frustrating when other people don't listen to reason, and even more when they're bullies." He said with a cute pout.
"I think right now, I could see why they'd be worried. My parents..." His heart skipped a beat for a moment, and he tried to keep a straight face at the memories, "My parents fought a lot, because singing was my dream, but my dad wanted me to do something more conventional. I think in a couple years though, you'll have no problem getting support from your Uncles, because they seem the type to support you no matter what you decide to do, and that's good."
