Timur smiled, "sounds good, but I'd like to make it clear only the cafe has banned me from speaking French. I get glares if so much as say bonjour to them." he griped.
He pointed out a building just starting to be visible, "Nope, it's right there." He continued leading the way, thinking of where he should take Inkar today. He smiled but didn't comment on being active in the family chat. He even now had it on mute, his family was too large to keep it off mute, but often he'd realize after a few days that he hadn't checked it once, and by then it was too late to respond to most relevant to him questions. He had to admit it was kind of nice to be involved in family matters, normally they felt too overwhelming for him to join in.
As they got to the doors, he held them open for Inkar and then went in himself.
"Bon-oh, it's you. Hello." The barista behind the counter said, switching to English pretty flawlessly. They seemed friendly and cheerful in their greeting regardless. Timur gave Inkar a look as if saying, "see?"

Inkar resisted the urge to roll her eyes. She'd not even really heard Timur's pronunciation yet, but she was pretty sure that it couldn't be that bad. She smiled at the owners though and said in her precise accent, still remembered from high school, accents had always been one of the things that she'd been the best at picking up, "Bonjour."
The owner continued at her and Timur in English, but with a smile for Inkar, and said, "Oh look, the little sister has much better pronunciation!"
Inkar glanced back at Timur and gave a tiny shrug. She stared at the case, slightly overwhelmed by the options, and asked Timur in Kazakh, not quite wanting to give her thoughts away to the owner, "Anything especially good I should try? I'm not in the mood for anything too sweet, but I could probably be swayed with the right fruits."

Timur made a face at the worker, "She took French in high school, okay?" He argued lightly with the worker, causing the worker to laugh. He looked at what foods they had available at the moment, "Their sandwiches are actually all really good, especially if you don't want something too sweet." He responded back to her in Kazakh. "All of the drinks I've tried are good, too." He added as an afterthought.

Inkar picked out a sandwich with cheese and vegetables on a baguette that looked like something that she might enjoy and a pastry with cooked berries in the middle, which looked like it might be sweeter than she sometimes went for, but still good. There was a tea latte on their menu, and she ordered that as well, not particularly liking coffee, though she was sure that it was quite good if one liked coffee.
Once they were waiting for their food and drinks, she asked Timur, "So where are you thinking of dragging me today? I will need to definitely find myself some souvenirs at some point, and some for our younger siblings." |

Timur picked a sandwich with ham, cheese, and veggies on it, and a cafe latte. He had to think of what he and Inkar could do today, "Well, the hotel is in a shopping district. I've already gotten souvenirs for most of the family and myself, but I'm still looking for a couple good ones for our parents and the twins." He said, adding after, "So if you want to just do some shopping around the hotel today, we can do that."

Inkar thought about it for a moment, realizing that she'd not really done shopping with Timur, not even grocery shopping let alone souvenirs or clothes, since moving in with him. Sure they both put things on the household grocery list and picked things up for each other, but the two of them hadn't done the shopping together.
She decided that she was curious what that would look like as an experience, and it was pretty low stakes if she suddenly realized that she was exhausted or something. She was pretty sure that she was still riding the excitement of the past six days, and she wasn't sure if it would suddenly fall out from under her. Plus, she could stand to pick up some souvenirs of her own, though she'd found everyone some little collectibles only really available inside the Olympic Village.
She smiled at Timur, relieved to get some food to eat and making an appreciative noise at the sandwich after her first bite. She said, "I could do some shopping. The past several days have been pretty intense, and I suspect that big tourist stuff will be less crowded after the Olympics actually wrap up. Plus, I want to get people some souvenirs myself. I can probably help you find something for the twins too, I feel like I've spent more time with them, and they're actually developing interests and stuff now."
She tilted her head at Timur curiously and asked, "What did you end up getting for people anyhow?"

"I'd appreciate help." Timur agreed. He ate his food as he thought over gifts he got for people, "For mom and dad, I got a really nice wine. For Aiday, I got her a makeup thing, uh, with a lot of help from the salesperson to make sure it's actually one she'd probably like. Aibek got a few English-translated books that are only published in France, and a couple miscellaneous book items, like a bookmark that's the Eiffel Tower. Uh... I got Inzhu a Paris phone case and some chocolates. Erasyl got a soccer ball signed from a local team, it surprisingly wasn't as expensive as that makes it sound. Anara got a pretty hat and scarf combo, along with some cute gloves that kind of match. For Serik, I got uhh... oh, a sweater and some cool shoes from a French brand. I also have a silly stuffed animal with a beret that I might give to Guldana or Dastan, but I originally got it for Anara before mom told me more things she liked besides 'cute things.'" He explained, counting on his fingers to make sure he got everyone.

Inkar nodded along to his explanation and said, "That all sounds like a good start. I can help with the twins and the not-twins especially, though what you've got for the twins so far and for Inzhu and Erasyl both sound solid."
Once she was done with her food, she looked around for what to do with her dishes, glad to see an obvious bussing station, and swiped everything done from the table before coming back to Timur, "Ready to do some shopping?"
She figured that she probably had a bigger barrier to getting it really right on gifts with her siblings than Timur did. She certainly knew them better. Timur making an effort would go a long way to begin with. She smirked at him and added, "Happen to find any shops with cool queer souvenirs? I want to get me something, and maybe the not-twins while I'm at it."

Timur was going to respond when something Inkar said stopped his thoughts from forming properly. He tried to figure out what she meant by "not-twins," but couldn't figure it out. He scrunched up his face. "Not-twins?" He questioned. Their family had twins, which meant everyone else was not twins. That didn't narrow it down when they had eight other siblings.
Another comment gave him pause, and he remained looking confused, "queer souvenirs? There's other queer kids in the family besides me and you?" He was learning more about his own siblings in the last few minutes than he had possibly his entire life. he finally answered her question, though. "Um, but yeah... I did find a few places that had some discount Paris Pride stuff, over this way." He said, starting to lead Inkar towards a small shopping district.

Inkar giggled and said, "Have you never heard Mom call Inzhu and Erasyl the not-twins? I'm pretty sure that she started it. Because they're both born in 2007 and basically do all the same things."
She followed Timur in the direction of the shops, and she told him, "Wait, did you somehow miss all the boyfriend drama? So Erasyl and Inzhu are both bi, they both came out a few years ago now, back when they were in seventh and eighth grade to mom and me, and were both pretty firmly out by the time they were in high school."
She grinned, somewhat amused by the ridiculousness of it all, "So Inzhu dated someone at the end of her sophomore year of high school, but never brought him home or anything. It wasn't that serious, and they broke up over the summer because they weren't finding time to see each other."
She continued, "Erasyl started dating someone at the start of his sophomore year, and around February, so like they'd been dating nearly six months at this point, Erasyl brought his boyfriend over to a family dinner. And then Inzhu gets home after him, and it turns out that Erasyl's boyfriend was the guy that she'd dated the previous school year, and it was apparently weird enough for both of them that Erasyl broke up with the guy and they've now sworn to tell each other who they date so it can't happen again. Erasyl's still friends with Kai, they're both on track, and like, it was awkward at the start of the season, but they seem to be genuinely pretty good friends. I felt bad for Erasyl though, because he clearly really liked the guy."
She shook her head and said, "Sometimes our family is a soap opera. I don't have any idea of what Aiday and Aibek's sexualities are, we've never really talked about it, or Anara or even Serik, but honestly they're so young that I don't know that anyone knows for sure yet."

Timur shook his head slowly, "No, I guess... I..." He faded off without giving a good reason. He knew he hadn't been close to his siblings growing up, he was trying to make amends for that, but he was amazed at just how much he had missed. He was reluctant to tell Inkar he hadn't known any of that, probably because he muted the family's group chat a long time ago, and rarely remembered to check in on it. His mom usually messaged him personally when there was a family event she wanted him to attend, and he made sure to go to at least one family dinner per month, but he still didn't spend a lot of time back at home. Now that he was used to the quiet of his own place, his parent's home felt overwhelming at times, though he usually got over it quickly.
"I... Wow. I really missed a lot..." He finally replied, raising his eyebrows. He could imagine accidentally dating someone one of his siblings had, even if he had siblings closer to him in age, and shook his head, "Poor Erasyl, though..." He mused.
Remembering to pay attention to his surroundings, he pointed out a shop coming up on their side of the street. "That was one of the shops that had some discount pride things."

Inkar looked thoughtfully at Timur and said, "You know, I don't know who other than me in the family you're out to. With the not-twins being out, and like actually out, everyone in the family, well at least immediate family, knows and is cool with it, it's pretty clear that the family is fine, we've got good people on our side. Dad was baffled a little when Erasyl really came out, but he rolled with it fine, and the rest of the siblings are like, that's normal we know lots of people who aren't straight. It might be good for Erasyl to know he's not the only queer guy in the family."
She grinned and said, "The not-twins, especially Erasyl, get compared to me all the time because they're the other sporty ones. Erasyl is interested in getting to know you better, he's literally described you as his mystery brother before. It's not actually going to be that hard for you to connect to him, he's a good kid, though sometimes too stubborn for anyone's good."
She followed Timur into the shop, and she was pleased to find a fairly good selection of Pride stuff, including some shirts and hoodies that were both Paris and Pride specific. She browsed through the selection, mulling over what she thought the not-twins would like best.

Timur thought a moment. "I kinda forgot to tell others, beside you and our parents." He frowned slightly at being known as the mystery brother, but he supposed he deserved it. "What does Erasyl like to do? Besides sports, cause I'm not sporty. Like if I offered to take him somewhere do you think he'd want to?" He asked hesitantly.
Timur browsed along with his sister, trying to think of other ways to bond with his siblings besides attending family dinners. He had no idea what to do with the twins, but everyone else was at an age where they actually had their own thoughts, and could in theory take care of themselves. Maybe it was time to try to spend more time with them outside of the occasional dinner. "I kinda like this hoodie..." He mused, though it was a bit flashier than his usual casual wear.

Inkar considered Timur's question for a little bit. She said, "Well, he's a pretty curious kid in general, likes museums, reads a fair amount. He likes Kpop, actually he's pretty much fluent in Korean these days, he chose it as his language in high school and he's done really well with it. His Kazakh is way way weaker. He likes hiking and stuff too, though that may be too far towards sports for you. He doesn't tend to go in so much for more sedentary stuff like going and watching a movie, but it's not just sports."
She paused and added, "But I'm pretty sure he'd jump at the chance to go like get dinner and ice cream with you and talk. He's curious about you, but I think he's nervous about approaching you because he's not sure if you like him."
She found a pair of similar but distinct hoodies, one in bi colors, one in rainbow, that she thought that Inzhu (bi colors) and Erasyl (rainbow) would appreciate, with the addition of a rainbow one in the same design that she'd grabbed for Inzhu for herself. She showed them to Timur and said, "What do you think? Bi colors for Inzhu, the similar one but rainbow for me, and the other rainbow one for Erasyl. You want to grab one too for something matching?" |

"I could do dinner, ice cream, museums, and concerts..." Timur mused. He could probably also manage a small hike or two, but it definitely wouldn't be his go-to with any of his sporty siblings. He felt bad that he made Erasyl think he didn't like him. Then he wondered if his other siblings felt the same way. He really needed to work on being a better older brother. Besides the twins, all his siblings were of an age that he found it not... easy to talk to them, but easier than he ever found talking to kids and toddlers.
He looked back to Inkar, seeing she had chosen some clothing for the... not-twins, and smiled. "I think they'd like those a lot." He picked up the rainbow hoodie he had been debating that was also slightly different from the clothing Inkar had picked but still similar, and looked to her. "And I think I'll get this one."
