Wooram skimmed over the application, not paying much attention to Raein's specific answers other than catching that he'd indeed listed the Cedar Beach School District as his employer. He more carefully double checked that the right unit was selected. He noticed that there was a little place to expand that they'd be interested in other units as well, and he asked, "Do we want to say that we'd be interested in the other unit and the one on the seventh floor which looks like it's also a unit with the smaller bedroom just in case for some reason this one fills before we get ours in? Other than that, it looks ready to submit to me."
His finger hovered over the mousepad, waiting to select the option and then submit it once he got Raein's take on the situation. He nodded to Raein's thought about guests.
He added, "Once this is in, we can do that video call. Hopefully the application won't take that long to process though. I want to be out of the motel as soon as I can be."

"Um, sure, just in case this one fills up for some reason." Raein decided hesitantly. He really wasn't fond of the floor plan with the smaller bedrooms, but he had to agree with Wooram than anything was better than staying a motel. Worse came to worse, they could probably try for a bigger apartment once their lease was up, assuming they still wanted to live together at that point. "I agree about wanting to be out of a motel as soon as possible. Hopefully we'll hear back from them quickly." He agreed.
He messaged his friends that they'd be ready to do the video call soon, to make sure they were prepared for one. He got a message back almost immediately saying they were ready.

Wooram nodded, went ahead and selected the option, and glanced over it one last time before hitting submit. He told Raein, "It looks like they offer six month leases, so if for some reason we do end up with one with the smaller bedroom, we can either start with a six month lease or ask about if they let people transfer their lease to a different apartment in the complex since we'd rather have one with the same size bedrooms. But hopefully, it won't matter, and we'll just get the one that we are applying for."
Once he'd submitted the application and tabbed over to his email to check that it confirmed the receipt of the application, which fortunately arrived quickly, he said, "Alright, let's do this video call. Do you want to do it on your phone or do we want to set up to do it on the computer? Either works for me."
He figured that potentially setting it up on his phone had the added bonus of giving Raein's friends his contact information, which they might find reassuring. Wooram figured that he'd let Raein decide what would work best for him.

"Oh cool, a six month lease also sounds like a good starting point that will be long enough for us to figure out if we'll make good roommates without being locked into something if we don't." Raein mused. He didn't think they'd make good roommates, but you never knew.
He checked his phone's battery before wincing a bit. "I didn't notice how low my phone battery was. Can we use your computer? I'll let them know to look out for a video request from you on... I don't know, what kind of video service do you use?"

Wooram nodded turned his computer so that they could both see the screen, saying, "I've got Skye, Hangouts, and Zoom, and I think that I had WebEx on here at some point, though I've not used it in ages, and might have uninstalled it. I'm flexible though with whatever works best for folks, the wifi here is good if I need to install something."
He waited for Raein to say what he'd need to pull up. He was interested to meet Raein's friends and see what they thought of him and what he thought of them. It would be an extra piece of information for his soon to be roommate.
He blinked in surprise as a notification popped up that he had another email from the apartment complex, and he turned the computer really quickly to check it. He said, "Oh, you should have an email too, but it looks like our credit check already cleared, and um, we can set up an appointment to sign the lease. We got approved fast. It looks like they can take check, cashier's check, money order, or a bank transfer for the deposit. We can wait to follow up on this until after the video call, but if you're going to need to get a cashier's check or money order, that's something worth thinking about. I've got the service that I'd need to do their direct deposit set up because it's one my credit union uses."
He smiled at Raein and turned the screen back towards him so that his hopefully soon to be roommate could see the email since Raein's phone was running low on battery. He pointed out the instructions about what they'd need. Wooram was definitely starting to get excited that it looked like they might be able to sign for the apartment that day. He liked Raein so far, and he really wanted to get out of the motel.

Raein looked through his phone for video platforms he knew his friends had. "Oh, Skype will work." He told Wooram his friend's username and then texted them that they'd be video chatting over Skype and to look out for a friend request because his phone was dying.
"Oh, sweet. I can do a bank transfer, I think." He said, not completely sure he even knew how to actually do that, but he'd figure it out.

Wooram realized as they were setting up that if they were going to be video chatting for a while, it was probably a good idea for him to plug his laptop in. He dug around in his laptop bag and plugged the laptop into the wall, but also found his portable charger for his phone that he'd forgotten he stuck in there. He pulled it out and offered it to Raein, saying, "I don't know if the cord I've got is the right type or if you have your charger cord with you, but if one of those two is the case than you can get your phone charged back up while we do this. It's got a USB-C cord on it."
He pulled up Skype and put in the request to the username that Raein gave him and waited hesitantly. He hoped that he was able to make a positive impression on Raein's friends, at least as a relatively trustworthy roommate. He knew that there was a slight chance that if this video call went badly, it could sink the roommate agreement.
He nodded to Raein saying he could do a bank transfer and said, "We can probably handle it this afternoon then after the video call."
He hit accept as soon as the call request came through, only quickly glancing at Raein to see if his hopefully future roommate was ready.

Raein examined the USB-C cord and his own phones' charging port and nodded. "I think it's the same type... Thank you." He said, taking the portable charger from Wooram and plugging in his phone. He got his phone settled and charging just in time for the friend request to go through, and soon enough there was a video call request on Wooram's computer.
Raein gave Wooram a quick nod in regards to working on the bank stuff after the video call and looked at the screen, his friends popping up, all four of them clearly curious about this new roommate he had found.
"Hey!!" They chimed at separate times. "Raven, introduce us, man." One of them requested.
"Uh, right. This is Wooram, who is the one who made the Craigslist ad, Wooram, these are my friends, Will, Jake, Daniel, and Joe." He said, pointing to the corresponding friend on the screen as he said the names. "Did you guys have questions for him or you just wanted to see him?"
"We have questions." Joe said, clearing his through and holding a notebook in front of him. "When did you move to the greater Seattle area? Where are you from? What are your hobbies?" He mimed going through a long list of questions, but as he put the notebook down to give Wooram a chance to reply, it was clear the notebook was actually empty. Raein rolled his eyes.

Wooram smiled and nodded to Raein's thanks, glad that he had the right charger for Raein's phone so that the other man wouldn't have to worry about his phone running out of batteries in this context.
After Raein's introduction, Wooram bowed very slightly too the camera and said, "Nice to meet you Will, Jake, Daniel, and Joe. I'd be happy to answer your questions."
He managed to bite his lip lightly and stifle the urge to chuckle at the blank notebook. He instead used skills he'd practiced with teaching and answered the questions sounding completely serious, "I'm from Jeju-do, South Korea originally, that is an island in the very south of Korea, but my family moved to Friday Harbor in the San Juan Islands around when I started middle school because my father is a scientific researcher there. I went to college for teaching, undergrad and masters up at Western in Bellingham, so I'd been living up there for the past few years, and now I'm down here because I got a job at Cedar Beach Elementary School to teach 5th grade. I feel very fortunate to meet another teacher to room with."
He paused, considering how he would describe his hobbies, and said a little bit more tentatively, "I like to read. I like music. I like going on hikes that aren't too hard, and I like going exploring. I've not seen a ton of the Seattle area and would like to see more."
He looked at Raein for a reaction and then back to Raein's friends through the computer screen. He hoped that he was off to a reasonably good start, if possibly an overly serious sounding one.

"Have you ever murdered anyone?" Will asked, almost immediately being reprimanded by the other three and Raein.
"Like he'd answer truthfully if he had anyway, idiot." Daniel added.
"I'm sorry about them." Raein said quietly from far enough away the mic wouldn't pick it up. He tilted the computer so it was facing him slightly. "You got to see him, are you guys happy now?" He asked, trying to feign frustration.
"Yeah, I guess he's fine. He's a real person and has like, real hobbies, so I guess he's acceptable. We'll have to come visit at some point to know for sure."
"I'll think about it. Let us get settled into an apartment first." Raein said, saying goodbye and barely giving them a chance to return the goodbye before ending the video call (not without Will screeching that his question was never answered). He sighed and looked to Wooram. "They liked you. When they start joking like that, that means you passed their inspection." He said, shaking his head, a light smile on his face. "If I didn't stop them there they would have thought of more and more ridiculous questions so I had to shut them down there." He explained. Shall we uh... get to working on the bank thingies?"

Wooram, slightly alarmed, said, "What? No! Why..."
Then he started chuckling when he realized that it was a jokingly outrageous question, not actually something they were expecting him to answer. He was relieved anyhow when Raein stopped the conversation there. He said tentatively, "So I pass the inspection?"
He was relieved when Raein moved straight back to talking about paying things. He said, "Well, they sent us a form to fill out, that's online too, and then we have to pay the deposit and first month's rent. If your bank uses one of the services that they list in the email, which most credit unions in Washington seem to, then we can just do it all on the internet. We'll have to go back in in person to sign the lease and get the keys and stuff. We can get it all filled out on the computer, but just for security reasons, it might be better for you to do the bank stuff on your phone. They have an option for splitting the deposit and rent between two people in the settings on the form."
He paused thoughtfully for a second and said, "If your bank isn't set up for the bank transfer, we can swing by a post office or a branch of your bank if there's one nearby and get a money order or a cashier's check."
Wooram was glad that he'd used the first listed service before. He asked, "Do you want me to go ahead and set an appointment to go in and sign things? I can put it for a few hours from now so that we have time to get everything filled out and the money in."

Raein smiled and nodded. "Yeah, you did." He had a feeling his friends would be too rambunctious for Wooram, based on what personality traits he'd observed so far in the other man, but if he convinced his friends to get a hotel room while visiting, at least that would give both of them time to decompress from his noise friends. And it kept his friends away from his kitchen.
He checked how his phone battery was doing - it was charging quickly thankfully - and checked his bank, glancing back frequently at the service they could use. "Uh, yeah, it looks like my bank uses that program, so I should have no problem with that." He said. He began filling out the things he could on his side of the lease and put in half the deposit and other necessary charges.
He tilted his head to one side as the other man started talking and glanced at Wooram, "Yeah, that should work. It looks like some parts of these files aren't quite as mobile friendly as other parts, so I may need to go through and fill out what I couldn't once we're there anyway." He paused, thinking a moment. "Although, if they accept us going in person in a few hours, I could easily go get my laptop from my hotel room and take care of it that way..." He mused.

Wooram grinned and said, "Looks like we can go in about two hours from now, and fill out the last bits of paperwork. Do you want to get everything ready together, or do you want to meet back up at the apartment complex in two hours?"
Wooram figured that they'd done this in a rush, and a little bit of breathing room might be good now that they'd sorted things out, but at the same time, he was happy to help Raein navigate the rental and move in process. It sounded like Wooram had more experience with rental agreements and the like if nothing else.
He was extremely excited that they had gotten the place so quickly and that it was already move in ready, being in a motel even for as short a time as he had been hadn't been fun, and he was more than ready to be out of the motel.

"Um... Raein thought a moment before deciding, smiling politely at Wooram, "We can get things on our own, and meet back at the apartment. We'll have plenty of time soon enough to get to know each other more and hang out." He decided, trying to make it clear it wasn't that he wanted space from Wooram. Well, he did want space, but not from Wooram specifically. He was still getting used to being surrounded by people when not in a school setting, so being out in public, even in what was considered a "smaller" city like Cedar Beach, wore him out.
