Meri noticed Taijia go quiet and he began to panic trying to figure out why. Had he done something to upset the younger boy? He replayed their conversation trying to figure out where it went askew. He wondered if it had to do with his comment about the dance club.
"Um..." He began hesitantly, deciding to speak honestly. "I hope my answer didn't upset you. It's just uh... I tend to avoid social situations, like at my current school I have all of one whole friend. I'm not in any clubs, so joining dance club sounds like it could be fun, but also is daunting. I've also never been in a situation where I've been around someone 24/7. Even with my family, I at least have my room to hide in when I've had too much of them. I don't want to one day unexpectedly be around you too much that I snap at you or otherwise somehow hurt your feelings. That's why I hesitated and didn't exactly say yes. We've only just met, but I'd like us to be friends..." He looked at his hands and picked at his nails, wondering what Taijia's response to his confession would be.

Tai gave a little hopeful smile up at Meri, still a little shaky, and said, "I'd like to be friends too. I'm sorry if I was pushing a little bit, I didn't want to make it awkward, but we're going to spend a lot of time together, and I, uh, wanted to make a good start."
He looked down. Meri seemed nervous too, which was reassuring in a way. And he said quietly, "I'm not always very good at the social stuff. I've not had many friends, especially not being young for my grade."
He thought for a moment and added, "You definitely have to find time for yourself here, with sharing a room and schedules with others. There's some quiet areas in the building though, and I think that everyone at least sometimes just goes and takes over one of the little vocal studios to get their own space. I'd had my own room since I was really young, so that was definitely a change."
He looked around the dance studio, as though maybe it could give him guidance somehow. He said tentatively, "Um, I was planning to go make lunch after a few more dances when manager brought you in. Do you want to get lunch? I can make something, or we could go down to the cafe downstairs."
He hoped that this wasn't too much doing stuff together.

Meri was glad that Tai wasn't upset at him, letting out a quiet but visible sigh of relief. He gave Taijia a hesitant smile and added, "I've also always had my own room. I have younger twin sisters, and they share everything, but I was lucky that my parents always made sure I had my own room. So I'm really kind of worried about the stress of living and working with people 24/7. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that needs time to... get away."
He paused for a moment, considering Tai's offer, and then finally giving him a nod. "I'd love to get lunch together." He said in a barely audible voice.

Tai gave Meri a slightly wobbly smile, relief clear on his face and in his slightly relaxing posture. He already was a little awkward with Seoji, it would have been rough to get off on the wrong foot with Meri, especially since they would be together so much. He started gathering his things as he said, "Do you want to go back to the dorm and I can cook something, or do you want to get something at the cafe or the convenience store downstairs or order something?"
He wasn't sure what Meri would want, and he didn't want to push a decision. He added, tying into their conversation, "I've always had my own room before this too, except when I was really really little, before I remember. Two of my uncles shared a room for a while so that I'd not have to share a room. It's definitely an adjustment living in a dorm."

Meri was surprised Tai was offering to cook. Was there anything this kid couldn't do? "Um... I mean... If it's too much trouble to cook, we can just go to the cafe or something." He said, feeling his heart speed up as he tried to think of a proper response.
When he mentioned to his therapist his anxiety around inconveniencing others, despite them offering to do something, she told him to speak honestly. But thinking of doing that just made him even more anxious. She'd called it a work in progress last time he brought up the issue. He took a deep breath, Tai had already mentioned he was planning to cook for himself. And he offered to cook for both of them. "Actually, maybe we can just eat in the dorm?" He said, starting off confident but his voice wavering by the end, "If you're okay with it, I'd love to try your cooking." He added shyly.

Tai smiled at Meri, some relief showing on his face, and led the way back towards the dorms. He said, "I have stuff for a curry or for spicy noodles. Does one of those sound better to you?"
He added tentatively, "I really don't mind cooking, and it's quiet and calm in the dorm when it's not many people there. Not that Seoji or Felix is super loud or anything, but if we're all there, it can feel busy sometimes."
Tai wondered a little bit how they would come off as a group. From what he'd seen so far, they all ran towards the quieter end. The girls were more outgoing as a group it seemed. Even so, he was kind of relieved that there wasn't anyone in the dorm who liked to yell or be overwhelming.
He asked, trying to figure out for the future, since he knew that he and Meri would be on a super similar schedule, "What sort of foods do you usually like?"

"Curry sounds great!" Meri said, perking up at the mention of the dish. As a little kid, curry had been one of his favorite dishes, especially when his grandmother cooked it, and so now, he held a soft spot for it. When his family moved to Korea, his mom had taught his paternal grandmother how to make it just as he liked it so that he wouldn't miss Japan too much.
He was relieved to hear the other two members weren't that noisy either. When he was watching the training camp, he was actually a bit surprised at who made it in, as they all seemed to lean towards the quieter end, but that would hopefully make it easier to get comfortable with all of them.
"Um, my mom is Japanese, so I'm very used to a lot of Japanese food." He began. "But I don't like kimchi or sashimi. Which often makes people look at me weird cause those are either staples of the country or a very popular dish. I'm okay with spicy foods, but still getting used to super spicy things. Like... I like budaejjigae well enough but can't eat that spicy ramyun that became a meme a couple years ago?" He said, laughing nervously a bit as punctuation.

Tai smiled when Meri agreed to curry and said softly, "I cook a lot for myself because it means I can get the foods I like, so as long as other people like what I'm cooking, I'm happy to share."
He nodded to Meri's explanation of his spice levels and added, "I'll make sure to tone the spice levels down a little from what I'd cook for myself then. One of the food regions I grew up with was Sichuan food, and I like spicy, and I'll not try to feed you kimchi then, not that that would have gone in curry."
He chuckled a little bit and said, "We're going to end up with Seoji-hyung being the only one who isn't particularly multilingual, aren't we? It will be good for having international fans though, with so many of us being mixed."

Meri nodded, "That makes sense." He wished he knew how to cook enough to make his favorites. He could do curry easily enough, but somehow it never tasted like the kind his mom made. But there were other foods he couldn't dream od making on his own, meanwhile, Tai made it sound like cooking was just another thing he did.
He gave Taijia a small smile and another nod at the spice comment. He'd heard about Sichuan food, but had never tried the food. Mostly because every time he inquired about it, he was told he wouldn't like it. It made sense since he was still getting used to spicy food, but maybe one day he could Taijia make some for him.
Meri blinked slowly at Tai before actually thinking about it and letting out a chuckle, "I guess you're right." He paused, "Wow, I didn't really think about that. Three out of four of us are mixed and therefore know at least one other language. I wonder, if any other trainees are added, if Seoji will finally get another Korean born and raised in Korea." He chuckled a bit at the thought.
