Face Claim: Yunkyoung Seo
Shieon stands at 5'2" (157 cm) and weighs 110 lbs (50 kg). She keeps her naturally black hair long, usually past the shoulders and to about elbow length, and it's currently dyed brown. She has piercing, dark brown eyes and fairly light skin (though her audition video showcases her still-dark-from-Thailand tan, and she says it was quite a good look for her). She loves nail art, to the point she almost became an instagram influencer before she became a trainee (she was gaining traction, but wasn't super popular yet). She has some noticeable scars in her private area, but otherwise has no scars. Her ears are pierced once in the lobes.
Personality
Shieon is friendly, chipper, and outgoing on the surface, but once someone breaks that, they see she's also inquisitive, smart, driven, and curious. Learning Thai on her own was an uphill battle, but she did it and is now fluent in the language, but she tends to have a one track mind, and will focus on one main goal until she achieves it, such as becoming fluent in Thai, joining a KPop group, etc.
She doesn't reflect much on the past, but she holds a grudge against people who were bullies to her. Especially when the bullying would get bad enough her family would have to move (again). She is not the greatest at making friends because of how much moving they did and her trust getting broken so many times, but she has a solid group of online friends - all trans girls, all within five years of her, most are Korean but a couple are not.
Although she understands now better than when she was younger why she should remain stealth in her transition. She came out to her company and band after Taehoon was outed, and it went well, which has helped some in her loneliness, but she still wishes she had another trans person to talk with about it. Being a fairly looked down upon minority in Korea has given her a heart of gold and open ears.
Family
MOTHER
Name: Kim Seonyoung
Birth Year: 1979
Occupation: Korean Language Teacher (High School)
Feelings Toward: Loves her, but wishes she would stop be so over-protective. She gets it - she does, but it's getting annoying as she's getting older.
FATHER
Name: Ah Sungjin
Birth Year: 1979
Occupation: Nurse
Feelings Toward: Loves him, but wishes he would stop being so over-protective. He was the first one to start supporting her transition (not that her mom was unsupportive, he was just the first and most). His favorite nickname for her (that he's made very clear only he can call her, not fans, never fans) is 'his princess.'
YOUNGER BROTHER
Name: Ah Shihyun
Birth Year: 2005
Occupation: College Student
Feelings Toward: He holds a bit of resentment towards Shieon, but she doesn't blame him. She also hated how much they had to move, and because it was because of her, she worked hard to make sure Shihyun always has at least one friend, but he was mad at her after she moved into the dorms. Shortly before debut, she finally got to talk with him and get him to open up, and by this point, their relationship is mended.
BANDMATE
Name: Woo Seojin
Birth Year: 04/04/2002
Occupation: Idol - Leader and Main Dancer
Feelings Toward: Not super duper close, but Shieon enjoys spending time with Seojin, and they do that a lot because they're the only two no longer in school so far. She loves how good Seojin is with the younger part of the group.
BANDMATE
Name: An Hayun
Birth Year: 05/05/2003
Occupation: Idol - Main Vocal
Feelings Toward: Almost instantly became her best friend. She loves getting to do Hayun's hair and nails, and will sometimes mindlessly play with Hayun's hair when they have a down time (and Hayun's hair is actually able to be played with). She has some confusing feelings around Hayun, but she hasn't yet explored them.
BANDMATE
Name: Elena Moon
Birth Year: 04/13/2005
Occupation: Idol - Main Vocal
Feelings Toward: Again not super duper close, since Elena seemed to latch onto Seojin and Felix, but they get along fine.
BANDMATE
Name: Anya Young
Birth Year: 11/15/2006
Occupation: Idol - Lead Dancer, Lead Vocal, Maknae
Feelings Toward: Shieon is a little awkward around Anya, because Anya's basically her little brother's age, and so she simultaneously wants to protect and shelter Anya while also not knowing how to act around the younger girl. She hopes in time they'll be able to get closer.
History
Shieon's parents met in high school, and Shieon was born in Daegu before they had even graduated college. Shieon was assigned male at birth, but by age 8, her parents and her noticed she was not acting like "typical boys;" she liked to play dress up, asked questions about female puberty, and had a strong dislike for being referred to as a boy. Some research by the child had her insisting she was a girl, and thus began her transition. Her parents told the extended family, who did not all take it well. Her immediate family no longer talks to the ones who took the news badly, but keep in touch with the ones that accepted their daughter. Within a few months, Shieon was ready for social transition, having grown out her hair enough and collected enough girl clothes she could easily pass full time, but she faced immediate bullying when she first showed up to school in her preferred clothing. Their child coming home bruised and crying prompted them to make a move. They moved to Jeju Island, so they could still be relatively close to family, and found a new school for their kids to attend. It was quiet for a year, and then a new teacher questioned why Shieon's school profile said male when she was dressed "like that," calling her a disgrace and outing her to the class. After Shieon faced more bullying, the family moved again, this time Yeongdeok. Shieon and her family really liked it there, but being a small town wasn't any good for them, and Shieon was outed even faster, and after only a month, they had to move again.
Finally, they settled just at the edge of Seoul (literally, the sign saying "welcome to Seoul" was technically in the complex's lawn). And they finally settled down there, but by this point, Shieon and are her brother were too on edge to properly make friends, and they spent a lot of time together instead. Shieon did manage to make a couple friends at school, but they never got very close.
Shieon was 11 when three things happened almost simultaneously: she was outed and so the family moved again (this time to Incheon), her parents told her she could get sex reassignment surgery in Thailand after she graduated high school, and she began learning Thai.
Shieon was 14 when her voice began to drop, and it greatly distressed her when her primary care physician did not think it was necessary to put her on hormone blockers. Her family moved again, again into Seoul city limits, this time moving near a doctor that was claimed to be trans friendly. He was thankfully accepting new patients, and also accepting new employees, and her dad working in the office is how Shieon met the only other in-person trans friend she has, a girl about two years older than her (who is part of Shieon's online friend chat). Shieon was quickly put on hormone blockers, and so her voice is slightly lower than average, but not to the point she needed vocal training or it's noticeable. Around this time, she got really into the group f(x), especially Amber, who didn't conform to female social norms and had a slightly lower voice. She began learning to mimic dances, and liked singing f(x) songs in general. When Mamamoo came onto the scene, Shieon was really enthusiastic about Moonbyul as well.
Shieon had just started actual hormones when she was outed at school again, and the bullying started again. Wanting to stay near a supportive doctor, her parents first tried just transferring her to another school. But it took less than a year before she had to transfer again, and then kids started bothering the family at the house. They moved up north, just far enough out of the range that Shieon (and consequently, Shihyun) had to go to new schools in completely different districts, but close enough that her dad could keep his job, and she could keep the supportive doctor. When Shieon started high school, her family began communication with a Thailand sex reassignment surgeon who was considered one of the best in the world.
Shieon graduated high school with good grades, but nothing that excelled (mostly low A's). As she was getting her ID so she could get a passport, Shieon decided to try something as she saw the "male" on her ID. She went up to the counter, and told the service rep that the wrong gender had been placed on her ID. By this point, she passed 100% of the time. It worked, thanks to an apathetic worker at the office, and without legally changing her gender, her ID says female.
Shieon's surgery date was in February of 2019, and her family rented a home for their temporary stay. Although her dad and brother went back to Korea after a couple weeks, her mom stayed with her through the healing process, helping Shieon with anything she needed. They ended up staying in Thailand for two months, as Shieon faced a (thankfully minor) complication after surgery and needed a second minor surgery.
It was in April that Shieon decided she wanted to try auditioning for Dreams Entertainment. It was also the first time her parents gave her a strict "no." Being in the public eye was too much a cause for concern, and what if her birth certificate was dug up? Also for the first time, Shieon went behind her parents backs and auditioned anyway. Although she wasn't skilled, and could tell she didn't impress anyone, in her dancing and singing, she accidentally blew them away after choosing to rap an Outsider song (a Korean speed-rapper). Despite that, she felt like she wouldn't get a call back, and it would just become an experience to add to her list of memories. Low and behold, she got a call back, and then had to have the very awkward conversation with her parents about what she did.
Although she was in the training camp, she didn't talk with the other trainees much and mostly kept to herself. It was discovered she'd be a terrible leader during this time, as she ended up leader of the rap group during one of the challenges and kind of was... not good at it. She was surprised when she made it through, but had already planned a trip to Thailand for a proper follow up appointment with her surgeon and so she moved into the dorms last of all the (at least native Korean) trainees. Her parents have constantly expressed their concern and disapproval for her choice to become an idol while simultaneously being extremely proud of her. Her brother has hardly talked to her since she moved into the dorms though, which hurt a little more than Shieon expected it to (mainly because she was expecting to keep in touch with him almost daily). Shortly before debut, she got have a heart to heart with her brother and their relationship is now on the mend.
