Yuseong had gotten one of the usual invitations to one of the athletic championship for idol shows that happened throughout the year. Their first few years, they'd gone to all of them, maybe only a few of them to the smaller things, but most of them, they'd been sent as a group. It was good for brand recognition, but once they were a little bit more established, it was more intermittent. Sometimes, they would have another schedule that the management would deem more important, or the invitation would be too late to work in. These days, it wasn't common for all of them to go, usually it was just Taehoon or Josh who went, since Shihyun didn't find them fun, and Qiwang was busy with school.
While Kangwan often had been reluctant to go in the past, management had decided that it was best that all three of them go. That meant leaving early in the morning, though Qiwang had already left to get to his morning class. Josh was up and getting ready, humming a little bit to himself and going over the notes from the program. He'd been selected as leader of one of the teams this year, benefits of being an established group actually going to one of these. Taehoon was excited because he always enjoyed sports days.
He went to knock on Kangwan's door, half expecting that he was going to have to wrangle a nearly asleep Kangwan into the car and to the program location until he could find some sugar and caffeine to put in their maknae. He didn't want to make it Josh's problem though. He felt a little bit bad that Shihyun had been allowed to skip out, and Kangwan had been told that it was good for working his image back up after his hiatus (though that had already mostly solved itself as far as Taehoon could tell."
He called out, "You ready Kangwan-ie? We need to leave in about fifteen minutes."

Kangwan had fought back as much as he could before it would seem too disrespectful when management told him he was going to join the athletic championships this year. His athletic ability went as far as dancing, that was it. In school, he wasn't good at team sports, and loathed when they had to run the mile, and despite having a boyfriend who was quite athletic, Kangwan remained not being so. Maybe if he was lucky he'd get the chance to catch up with old classmates or something while there.
The morning of, even though he'd already resigned himself to attending, he didn't want to get up. This wasn't uncommon, but today especially he didn't want to get up. When Taehoon told him they were leaving in fifteen minutes, he grumbled a non-intelligible response, burying his face deeper in his blanket for a moment. After another couple minutes, he managed to get himself out of bed and into the bathroom to wash up, but was still slow as he came out. "I just want to go back to sleep." He whined to Taehoon, still in his pajamas. "I don't even want to go to this." Eventually, and not without some more protesting, he came out of his room in proper clothes, but still looking half asleep and grumpy.

Taehoon laughed at how disgruntled Kangwan still looked when he came back out of the room in proper clothes, and he said, "Let me help you out there Kangwan-ie."
He tidied Kangwan's hair a little bit, but not without ruffling it first and said, "I can do your makeup in the car on the way over if you want. You've not slept enough I can tell. And I know it's sport day, so it might come off by the end of it, but we're supposed to look good for opening ceremony stuff, especially since Nunpyobeom-hyung is team leader for the whole team we're on, so we'll be standing up at the front."
He teasingly asked, "Are you so tired that you need me to carry you down to the car Kangwan-ie?"
He was fully prepared to give Kangwan a piggy-back-ride down to the car if he said yes, but he hadn't been entirely serious. He could hear Josh-hyung laughing at his fussing from the other side of the room though, even if it was mostly a suppressed little snort.
He reassured Kangwan, "You're mostly being dragged along so we had a set of three for archery, and they might make you run one short sprint. You're not doing any of the team sports or the wrestling or any of that, but we needed at least three of us for archery."

Kangwan let Taehoon fix his hair, blinking wearily as the older man did so. He debated a little too seriously about the offered piggy-back ride, but eventually shook his head that he didn't need it. He grumbled something that might have been "yes, please," as a response to the offer to get his makeup done in the car, and then gave Taehoon a deep, almost comical frown at being told he'd have to run. "I thought I left sports behind when I graduated high school." He didn't mind archery, it was probably his favorite activity when all of them were still being forced to go to the idol sports events, though he wasn't any good at it. The fans got a good laugh out of it the last time he did archery.

When Josh saw them getting close to being ready, he veered over to the entrance, collecting his running shoes and a face mask. He grabbed his own make up bag as well, ready to deal with his face in the car. Taehoon murmured as he went by, "I can do yours after Kangwan's if that makes your life easier."
Josh smiled at him and nodded, replying, "Thanks. You're better at it than I am."
Taehoon grabbed Kangwan's and his own make up bags from the little collection that was always by the door as well, and handed Kangwan a face mask. He wasn't planning to do much for his own make up, the advantages of not needing it so much, but he figured he'd do something if he had the time after doing the other two's.
Taehoon told Kangwan reassuringly, "There will be lots of food, and caffeine there, and you don't have to run well, just try to look like you're trying. None of the fans expect you to suddenly like sports. Just have fun with the parts that you can, try to socialize some, and the fans will be happy and management will be happy."
Their manager came in right after and looked them over before saying, "Good, you're ready. I've got the van out front."

Kangwan sighed, putting on the face mask to cover his pout, though it didn't stop once it was put on. He supposed he could look forward to food, and caffeine, and there were friends he had made in high school he had hardly seen since then, save for a couple times on stage, as to which he could maybe get in a wave to them. So maybe the idol sports competition could be good.
He glanced up wearily as the manager showed up and began speaking, blinking sleep away still. "Yay the van is close." He said, his voice monotone, as he slipped on his running shoes without tying the laces yet and heading toward the vehicle. Right before reaching the stairs, he finally paused and shoved the shoelaces into the shoes, deciding he'd tie them properly in the car.

Taehoon sat in the spot in the van where he'd be able to reach both Kangwan and Josh easily, and since Kangwan was still grumbly and tired, he turned towards Josh first, pulling some of Josh's make up basics out of his own make up bag. He and Josh went to the same events enough, and their make up was hard enough to confuse, that he'd just started carrying Josh's basics. It was a well practiced routine between the two of them, and Taehoon was able to finish the sort of makeup that was useful for this sort of event on Josh in just a few minutes, fingers gentle as he worked his way through applying and blending the make up. He finished by tidying Josh's hair, fingers delicately carding it into place, and handing him back his mask.
They shared a quiet little smile for a second, a little bit in their own little world, and then Taehoon turned towards Kangwan. He asked, "You ready for make up? We've got plenty of time before we get there."
He carefully tucked away Josh's makeup into his own makeup bag while he waited to see if Kangwan was ready. He also subtly glanced down to check if Kangwan had remembered to tie his shoes once they'd gotten in the car.

Kangwan got situated in his seat, and as he saw Josh was going to get attention first, he focused on tying his shoes properly and then popped in an ear bud and listened to music, catching more rest while waiting for his turn.
When he heard Taehoon ask him a question, he opened his eyes and gave his hyung a nod. "Yeah..." He said, surprised to notice the little bit of extra rest actually helped for once. He sat up properly in his seat and waited for Taehoon to apply makeup.

Taehoon didn't do Kangwan's makeup nearly as often as he did Josh's, so he took a moment to orient himself with what was in Kangwan's grab and take with makeup bag. He didn't need a ton of makeup for this sort of event, some concealer and foundation, and when he spotted that Kangwan had it, waterproof eyeliner, since that would help make Kangwan's eyes show up better in fan photos, which management always encouraged them to consider.
He was gentle once he started working on applying Kangwan's makeup, generally knowing his way around doing makeup for all of his group mates. It didn't take him long to finish, and he lingered over the process less than he did with Josh. He wasn't surprised when the leader slumped a bit against him as he put away Kangwan's makeup tidily. He reached up and tidied Kangwan's hair and said, "There, that will do well enough for long range fan photos and the opening."

Kangwan sat patiently as Taehoon applied his makeup and fixed his hair, checking how his bandmate did using his phone camera before nodding approvingly. "Thanks," He said simply.
He was curious what other groups would be there, and if he'd run into any old classmates. He looked up the listing of groups that would be there, but besides some sunbaes he couldn't find anyone through a quick glance. He looked out the window, noticing they were getting near the stadium. He yawned again and closed his eyes anyway. If a little bit of sleep helped before, maybe the cat nap could help now.

Taehoon and Josh talked quietly in the back of the van as they waited to arrive at the venue, not wanting to disrupt Kangwan's rest. It wasn't long before they reached the venue though, and from the cheers as Josh lowered the window for them to wave at fans, Taehoon was glad that they had a protected entrance.
He nudged Kangwan's shoulder gently and said, "We're here. Wake up so you can wave at your fans as we walk in."
Josh had to peel off to go to the leaders' meeting, so Taehoon was left to walk into the main prep area with Kangwan.

Kangwan blinked awake and stopped himself just short of rubbing his eyes, remembering he'd just gotten make up put on and it probably hadn't had time to set yet. He turned a yawn into a deep breath and opened the car door and crawled out, waving to fans as cheers erupted at their emergence. He was still sleepy, but if they were here, that meant he'd be able to at least get some caffeine soon, if not some food as well. He stayed close to Taehoon for now. Perhaps once he got to see properly who all would be here, he'd try to socialize with others, but for now he'd stay close his band mate.

Taehoon chuckled at Kangwan's sleepiness, dropping an arm around Kangwan's shoulders to steer his sleepy younger bandmate in the correct direction. He was slightly surprised at the sudden volume of the cooing from fans and general excitement, but he waved at them anyhow.
He said softly to Kangwan, "This way. Also, I think that some of our the two of us fansites are here today. I am amused."
He steered them into the main building where they would be getting uniforms and preparations for the contests, waving to Josh as they passed by where the team captains were getting ready. He knew that Josh would come find them later once things were moving steadily. He led Kangwan over to where there was coffee and snacks and other refreshments and nudged him lightly, saying, "You should get yourself something to wake you up more."

Kangwan glanced up properly and sure enough, saw a group of fans where some of them clutched "Taehoon ♡ Kangwan" posters. "Yep, they're here. I can't believe they still exist." He muttered to Taehoon. He was amused by them, apparently fans could ship anyone.
He covered a yawn as they took the few remaining steps before they were safely behind closed doors, and he walked a bit faster as he saw the refreshments table. He was pouring his coffee when someone called his name, and it took him a moment to place the person as one of his old classmates who was now in... a group. He suspected it was a nugu group, but didn't want to ask and risk insult to his friend. Soon enough they'd all be decked out in name tags and he could pretend he knew from the beginning. Kangwan greeted him and made small talk as much as he could prior to having caffeine. He poured some coffee into a cup and sniffed it before putting in, not quite literally, the same amount of sugar. He then added some cream and tasted it, giving it a nod before looking at the food that was available, deciding on a banana and saying a quick, 'see ya later!' to his friend before heading back to the hallway to find Taehoon again.

Taehoon chuckled and ruffled Kangwan's hair lightly. He said, "It's because both of us like to cuddle more than the rest of the members."
He was honestly grateful to know that there were as many ships for him as there were. It meant that all the rest of the weirdnesses, things with Shihyun and now things with Josh, were sort of wrapped up in him just getting shipped with everyone. The fans weren't going to notice, probably.
He got himself a tea, decent, not great, but much better on his stomach and nervous system than the coffee would have been, and watched Kangwan interact with a former classmate. He could tell that Kangwan was trying to place the person, and Taehoon had been on the same sports show as the new group that Kangwan's former classmate was a part of. When Kangwan returned to the refreshments table, Taehoon peeled himself away from the wall and asked, "How was Rohwan? His group debuted a few months ago, and they were on one of the shows that I guest hosted for right after their debut."
He was glad that Kangwan was seeing friends and that they remembered and wanted to talk to him though. It wasn't that long before it would be time for them to reconvene with their team, and meet back up with Josh at least for a little, find out their assignments. Taehoon knew that the three of them were signed up to be an archery team, and Taehoon was signed up for all of the solo running events. He wasn't sure what else they'd end up doing. Kangwan would probably not have much else though, considering he'd been a bit reluctant to come in the first place.
