From 2019/6/15-2019/6/30, Dreams Ent had an Audition Training Camp [summary post].
[[As of 2020/03/15, we have reached our initial planned number of trainees! However, because they will be a trainee group for a while longer, new members may continue to be added!]]
Taijia Lin and Felix Choi Sungjin , along with Tae Seoji , were three of the four initial male trainees accepted as permanent trainees with Dreams Ent. They have since been joined by Song Meri , who auditioned later. At this point, the fourth male trainee accepted in the training camp has ended up not staying with Dreams Ent, and any future trainees added will have auditioned later. They are meant to debut as part of a boy group around the time Tai and Meri graduate high school (2023); however, they may end up debuting sooner. We are open to other male trainees being brought in while they are still in the training period, since Dreams Ent would prefer a 5-7 member boy group (as that is the sort of magic number range in Kpop) though they'll debut them as 4 if they are ready. They'll also get to interact with the female trainees, members of Yuseong, and other people in the Seoul setting (or who are intermittently in the Seoul setting).
These are very open ended characters. If you check out the link above, there were some breakdowns of what the trainee groups looked like skill wise at the audition training camp, and looking at the currently accepted characters can give an idea of what skill sets a trainee might have. Here's a few of the key things that might be starting points for a character:
A few guidelines of who would work well, starting with explanation of the characters who are already in the trainee group:
- Dreams Ent has many International Trainees and group members, but most of them are of of Korean descent (all of them are Asian). Most of them also at least spoke some Korean before joining Dreams Ent. Among the boys group, two of them are international trainees currently (Felix: Korean-Argentinean, Tai: Chinese-Korean-American). The other two are more local, but one of them is mixed (Meri: Japanese-Korean).
- Felix is likely in the older range at 18 international age (20 Korean age, b. 2002). He is from Argentina. Spanish is his native language, and he has relatively weak Korean at this point (though it's getting better), and even weaker English. He is slated to be the main dancer and the main rapper in the group. He also is interested in singing, so would probably function as a sub-vocal.
- Seoji is 17 international age (19 Korean age, b. 2003). He is from Namwon (a city about 3 1/2 hours outside of Seoul), and he is slated to be the eventual leader, main vocal, and visual of the group. He pretty much only speaks Korean (since his English is abysmal).
- Meri is the newest trainee, and the only one who joined after the training camp so far. He is 15 international age (17 Korean age, b. 2005). He his Japanese-Korean, and was born in Japan, but has lived most of his life in South Korea. He speaks Korean, Japanese, and French (and is trying learn some Chinese and Spanish). He is slated to be the lead rapper, lead dancer, sub-vocal, and visual of the group.
- Tai is the youngest at 12 international age (14 Korean age, b. 2008) by at least 2-3 years. He is from Washington State and grew up in Cedar Beach, WA. He is (effectively) half-Korean, half-Chinese, and natively trilingual in Chinese, Korean, and English. He is slated to be a main dancer, lead vocal, maknae (youngest), and choreographer/producer/songwriter in the group.
Age Range:
The trainee should be between 14 and 18 international age (14-17 Korean age; born between 2006-2003) but could be a little bit older, especially for international trainees (but only by a year or two). Most trainees would fall somewhere between Tai and Seoji in age.
Skill Set:
Overall, the important specific roles in the group have been met, so other trainees should likely either be very well rounded in their skills, or should be very good at one skill and at least decent at the other needed ones.
[[Quick Roles Explanation: main ___ means the best or focus in the group at that role; lead ___ means someone who carries a lot of that role, could probably step in for a main if they were out for some reason; sub-____ means someone who carries some of that role, but isn't as strong or is more limited (couldn't cover for the main), is not used for dance since all members dance.]]
Face Claims:
These are very open ended for these characters! They should be around the right age and ethnicity to make sense as the character. We can help you find people if you aren't sure, but here are a few places to look for faces:
- [part 1] [part 2] the ages listed here are from a few years ago; some of these trainees have fallen off the face of the earth in the intervening time; for the most part, they will be more useful for the older part of the age range
- [part 3] this is from a show that is a bit more recent, so they are all pretty recent/up-to-date; there will be a better spread of younger trainees in this one
- [part 4] this is from a Chinese program which also had some SE Asian contestants, this will mainly be useful for the older age range because the youngest contestants were late teens
- [part 5] [part 6] [part 7] some groups, Cpop and Kpop with younger members
(Though as a heads up, there are a few people found on those lists who are already in use as face claims. If you need help finding more about someone, let Etienne or Redeim know! And we can definitely also help with finding more specific things that someone might be interested in.)
