Kittibun "Kit" ZhouFor the first time, the Driftwood Dance Crew had managed to secure a booth at the annual first farmers' market. Devi was excited, but also nervous. He'd be running demonstrations for most of the day, alternating with kid's classes for bboying. At least he wasn't going to have to do much talking with adults.
They'd set up a little shaded area with a high popup tent top, and some padded areas laid down on the cement so that no one would hurt themselves. There was also a single mat out front, and for the beginning of the day, Devi was doing demonstrations there, helping to draw attention from the crowds that were beginning to gather. One of the girls from the crew was doing a quick talking spiel to anyone who stopped to watch, explaining what they did, from teaching to competitions to some of the charity work, and making sure that class sign up sheets ended up in the hands of anyone who looked interested.
Occasionally, one of the other dancers from the crew joined him in demos, letting him take a break, or doing some of the paired up moves that they did for crew dances with him. Soon enough, it would be time for the first full crew demonstration of the day though, and most of the members had already arrived.

Kit was both nervous and excited about the farmer's market. He'd get to spend all day with the crew and encourage more people to come to the studio, possibly even get more people for their crew. He did a few of the paired dances with Devi, or a couple group dances, but none on his own. He spent the times he wasn't dancing either grabbing drinks for everyone else or sitting in the shade and people watching. His mom and brother were supposed to come by later, and Lek had asked him to sign him up for the afternoon class.
He was happy he'd have Devi as a fellow dance instructor for this course, and that his brother was going to be one of the students, because he felt like that would help boost his confidence. He was nervous about the crew trying to encourage him to do a solo dance. He was too anxious to do that - even if this wasn't an official stage, people were still stopping by and staying long enough that Kit knew he'd get nervous.

Ever since Luna had moved to Cedar Beach roughly two years ago, she had been teaching dance a few times a week in Seattle. The commute wasn't too bad, but she wished she could find somewhere closer to home where she could teach dance. She wasn't into teaching ballet or jazz or gymnastics. She liked hip hop and freestyle. She liked moving to the music in order to perform art. Where she was teaching now, she had to teach whatever they needed her to. She knew ballet, which was oddly common for people to want to learn. It paid her bills, and the studio also let her use the rooms whenever she wanted. She just had to make sure people were not using them.
Luna had the weekends off, which was strange to her. She felt the studio would make more money if they offered dance classes on the weekends. She wasn't listened to, though, so they remained closed on weekends. Luna had to get out of her house for at least a few hours because her siblings were driving her insane. They knew where Luna's brain went when she wasn't busy doing something. They didn't want her to drink because she was bored, and she appreciated that. But she did need some time to herself to just be alone. She loved her siblings, but sometimes they were just too much to handle.
So, she made her way to the Farmer's Market. They had all sorts of vendors there. She didn't even know this little town had all of these resources! She made her way through the market, sampling things like cucumbers that farmers had out. She bought a few cucumbers and a few baked goods before stopping at a Dance booth. It was not something Luna thought would be at a farmers market, but she was pretty excited. A big smile came to her tanned face, and she shoved her hands into her black windbreaker.
She watched as a few of them did their routines, clapping happily when they finished up. She made her way over to two boys, giving them a small wave and smile.
"You all are pretty awesome."

Jenny and her foster parents stopped and watched some of the dancers. Jenny was not familiar with any type of dancing, but it was interesting to watch, although that might be partly due to the fact that she had never seen it before. As she watched them, she started moving to the music herself, and did not even realize she was doing it.
The music was interesting too. Jenny was not very familiar with music, as it was something that her father had never been a fan of. Mr. and Mrs. Baxter played music sometimes, which was weird, although this dance music was better then what they played.
Jenny suddenly felt the need to spin around, so she did. It was then that she realized that she was moving. She felt like she shouldn’t, so she stopped, but then she started making Pooh dance in the air, while she tapped her foot.

@lunaf Kittibun "Kit" Zhou
Devi startled a little bit when the woman who was clapping said something to them directly. He smiled, changing his posture so he wouldn't tower quite so much, and said voice slow but mostly clear gesturing at the sign on the tent behind them, "Um, thanks. We're part of Driftwood Dance Crew. We're, um, a local crew and do some classes and some charity events and stuff."
He glanced over at Kit and mouthed, 'Help, words.'
He knew that most of the crew knew to rescue him from talking to strangers. He turned back towards her and asked, voice a little bit mumblier than before, "Um, d'you dance?"

Devi saw the little girl dancing along just as they were finishing the set before the kids class. He smiled at her and the adults that she was with and crouched down, speaking slowly and carefully, but much less bothered by speaking slowly with a kid, "It looks like you were having fun dancing. We're about to start a sample kids dance class, if you're interested."
He looked up at the adults from where he'd knelt and said, stumbling over his words a little bit more, "It's a free trial class, no commitments, mostly just for fun for the kids out here today."

Kit noticed Devi stumbling over words, and he grabbed a brochure before approaching the girl he had been talking to. "Hello! Thanks for stopping by! And thank you for the compliment." He said, offering her the brochure. He pointed at it, "This is actually information on the dance studio itself, but the dance crew is in there as well. Should check it out, even if you just want to watch some more dancing." He added, giving the girl a smile and wink. "But for today, we'll be having more demonstrations, as well as some classes for beginner dancing, mainly for kids but I believe there's one or two adult sessions as well. I don't have the schedule memorized, but it's over on the table there." He pointed toward the table they had.

When the man started to crouch down in front of her, Jenny was worried that she might be in trouble, even though he was smiling. She moved Pooh from out in the air, and held him to her chest. The man just asked if she wanted to stay for the kids dance class. “Okay,” she answered, with a nod, and some excitement in her voice. It soon occurred to her that maybe she should have asked Mr. and Mrs. Baxter’s permission first. She looked behind her shoulder, at them, and they both nodded, which she took to mean that it was okay.

Talking with kids was notably easier for Devi than talking with adults. Kids generally didn't mind when someone spoke slowly, especially if they were giving instructions, and kids often liked to learn by watching and trying things out. He took a little while to let the group of kids that had gathered properly assemble, and he got them to spread out across the mats so that there wouldn't be much risk of anyone accidentally kicking or otherwise running into each other.
He told them, "By the end of the class, I'm going to have taught all of you a short, fun routine, and I'll show you that so that you'll see what you're learning, but first, we need to work on a few moves. Does anyone know how to to a somersault or a cartwheel?"
He looked around for raised hands, and said with a smile, "Awesome. Why don't you each show me."
Once the kids who'd raised their hands, which was most of them, though there were also a decent number who didn't. Devi showed them the little routine. It mostly involved spinning and jumping into the air, and the floor work was simple stuff like sitting and spinning on the floor before getting back up quickly, but it was stuff that kids tended to enjoy. At the end, right before he went into a backflip and a held pose, he said, "And this is the bit that you get to choose what to do. A somersault or cartwheel and the coolest pose you can think of would be great. Here's mine."
He looked around, trying to read the reactions of the kids in the class before he started breaking down the short dance, only about fifteen moves long with some free movement in between. Sometimes kids would look overwhelmed during the start of the demo class, and he knew that he'd have to start small and get them laughing and more comfortable, but sometimes they'd be jumping up and down to get started properly.
He glanced over at Kit, knowing that this was the part that having two instructors helped a lot for. Just doing demos, one person was easy enough for, but if they needed to split up the group between overwhelmed and not, or in general just if someone needed to be jumping in and showing kids things one step at a time, they could take turns being the one in the front explaining.

In high school, Luna had been one of those people who never met a stranger. She made friends with almost everyone she met. It was something Damion and Nick (her brothers) also possessed. But ever since Liam had passed away a few years ago, she had become more reserved. She rarely wanted to make conversation with strangers. She liked sticking to herself. She was afraid people wouldn't understand who she was or how she got to where she was now. Plus, being an alcoholic at the age of twenty-three was something most people would laugh at. They would just tell her she was being overdramatic and that all young adults experimented with alcohol and drugs.
"That's pretty awesome. I teach dance in Seattle, actually. I am pretty new to the area, and honestly, I am just getting back into dance."
She answered him, leaving out a huge portion of her story. When the other male walked over, she gave another friendly smile. She took the brochure from him, glancing through it quickly. She would go over it more in-depth later, but she felt it would be rude to just stand there and read it while they held a small conversation.
"I'll have to check it out. Might be fun to dance with professionals again."
She said with an excited smile on her face.

Devi's pose and stance got a little bit more comfortable as the woman explained that she danced too and expressed interest in coming and dancing with them at some point. He said softly, voice seeming rather too small for his frame, "I teach at our studio here, we-uh-offer a lot of styles, though we have a focus on the bboying and related styles. Depending on what sorts of things you're interested in teaching, we sometimes have teacher openings too. Um, we have open dance nights pretty often, and then auditions for Driftwood about every six months. We'd love to have you come check the stuff we do out."
He glanced over at Kit again, realizing that he was the one of the two of them who was actually in leadership for the group, and everyone else who was good at the front facing stuff was not there right then or talking to other people. He added, "Um, and we host a competition, out of the CBCC auditorium and gym every year, but that finished recently."

Some other kids showed up and the dance class began. Jenny could summersault, which she demonstrated on her turn, but she could not cartwheel. Another kid had taught her how to cartwheel once, but she had been unable to do it.
They learned the dance routine. It was not very hard, despite her lack of familiarity with actual dance moves, and it was not super easy either. She fell when spinning once, but she quickly got back up again, because she was not hurt at all. More importantly, it was pretty fun and Jenny mostly liked it, especially the jumping into the air bit. She was glad that the fact that she could not cartwheel was not an issue. At the end, she summer slated, and then stood, keeping one hand tightly clutched to Pooh, and punched one fist into the air.
