Baian had just started part time at the Cedar Beach Public Library as he finished up his Masters in Library Science at UW, but he'd jumped at the chance for more hours and working an event when they needed people to help run the library booth at the First Farmers' Market. He'd been assigned to the set up team, and he'd volunteered to be there for most of the day because Minglong would be working a different booth.
He got to the mall parking lot quite early in the morning, and the other librarian would was setting up got there a few minutes after him with the booth supplies in tow. They were both pretty quiet as they set up the tables and bookshelves under a pop up booth tent. The weather was clear, but while too much sun wasn't as bad as rain for the books, Baian was glad that they had some shelter.
There was a shelf of books that were being sold, donations and extras, to raise funds for the library. There were several shelves of kids books in several different languages, and a some chairs and cushions that they'd brought for the kids' story hour that they would be having later in the day. There were coloring stations at one of the tables. Baian was starting the day manning the library card desk though. They had brought a tablet to do the registrations on, and a whole big box of new library cards with several different designs. There were paper forms too because the other librarians had told him that it gave them a big uptick in seniors signing up.
Baian was a little bit nervous about how busy it would be, but he was also excited. This was his first real front facing moment as a public librarian in the town.
