Hwangjung had finally gotten the studio that he was making in the garage sound isolated enough that he could record things in there, and the office space that he'd set up outside of the recording booths had been a nice editing space for a while. There were many ways at this point where his new home studio was much nicer than the old one in Yunjin and Sungyong's basement. He was working on editing and listening for Jiuk's return, since it was getting close to when he knew his boyfriend would get home from work.
He glanced over at his phone as he finished a rough cut of a song that he'd been working on. He'd been trying to get Jiuk to really dive in to working on some lyrics for him for a while, and the particular song was something that he especially thought would be something Jiuk would like.
He reached over and texted Jiuk quickly, I'm working on something I want to show you, out in our studio. Come find me when you get home? <3

Jiuk was really bored, so he decided to waste some time by hiding in the snacks/break area when he felt his phone vibrate. He pulled out of his pocket and saw it was Hwangjung, tilting his head curiously as to what his boyfriend could want to show him. Okay <3 He replied back, going back to his snack. Seeing it was getting close to time to go home though, he grabbed a vitamin water from the vanding machine and went back to his desk.
By the time he was home, it had already been a couple hours since the text and Jiuk was dying to know what the "something" was. He set his stuff down and quickly changed into pajama bottoms before heading into the garage. "Oh wow, you've finally finished up in here, huh?" He asked his boyfriend, looking around the studio. He gave Hwangjung a quick kiss as he got close enough to Hwangjung. "What is this something? I've been dying to know."

Hwangjung switched over to working on other projects, saving the song that he had started on for until Jiuk got home. He noticed that Jiuk had responded in passing, but he was focused on the editing on another project and didn't want to lose his train of thought.
When Jiuk finally got home, Hwangjung smiled up at him from his seat and put his headphones down around his neck. He nodded at Jiuk's comment about the space and said, "There's definitely still some details that I need to work out, but all the basics are set up. There's enough room out here that we can probably set up some other stuff for working on projects or put some storage. I can do all my recording here now instead of having to take things back and forth from next door, which is good because it was pouring this morning, and having to take the keyboard back and forth would have been a hassle. Everything else, I can just use Sungyong's or Yunjin's, but I've got a bunch of things preprogrammed on the keyboard."
Hwangjung pulled out the other rolling chair that was nested under his editing desk and gestured to it, "Come sit down. I've got a song that I want you to listen to because I think that you could probably put good lyrics on it. The rhythm that I was working with reminds me a lot of the cadences of the way you tend to work with slam poetry, and I know that you've been practicing your Korean enough that we could probably make something work."
He pulled out the extra headphones and plugged them into the headphone splitter, holding them out to Jiuk, "I am totally here to help you with the Korean parts, but I know that you'd be good at the lyrics. Plus, I just like getting your opinion on things. This is a rough cut, so there's some stuff that I still need to change or put on actual instruments, but this will give you the idea."
He waited for Jiuk to get situated so that he could start the song in his editing software, hoping that Jiuk would agree to work on the lyrics with him.

"Ooo," Jiuk squeaked as he sat down in the provided chair and pulled on the headphones. He was nervous about the thought of writing something entirely in Korean, and he felt like at the moment his poetry skills and Korean ability conflicted, but since Hwangjung was willing to help him with the Korean, that made him more confident he could probably do it. It was something they had been talking about for months, years even, but this was the first time Hwangjung seemed so extremely confident he would be able to make lyrics for it. "Okay, I'm ready." He said after some final wiggles on the seat.

Hwangjung watched Jiuk get settled, hoping that he was right and that Jiuk would like the song and also feel inspired to do the lyrics for it. Once Jiuk said that he was ready, Hwangjung put his own headphones back on so that they covered one of his ears and let him hear where Jiuk was in the song, and then he hit play.
The song used somewhat distorted violins and flute, with an electronic sound, and a dance beat laid over them. The rhythm had been somewhat based off of the speaking rhythm of a lot of the slam poetry that he'd heard Jiuk practice. It had a strong, steady beat though, that he knew that choreography would be able to be set to. The song overall had a little bit of a melancholy tone, but there were major elements added as accidentals into the overall minor key of the song that gave it a slightly hopeful tone. The vocal line was not filled in yet, but he'd put in a keyboard line for the melody that the vocals would be sung on.
He watched Jiuk, hoping for a good reaction.

Jiuk listened intently to the song, he liked it a lot, and the melody was nice. As the song came to an end, he placed the headphones down gently on the desk in front of him. "I really like the song, it seems almost sad... Yet it doesn't strike me as a love song." He leaned back in his chair, crossing one leg over the other and tapping his lips with a finger. "It has the same feeling as "Kkomaya" by DBSK." He paused, wincing a little. "Unless you had other plans for the direction of the song...?" ((Since I know you're not fond of 5-member DBSK, here's just the lyrics if you don't want to watch a lyric video.))

Hwangjung leaned back, putting down his headphones as well, and trying to hide his small sigh of relief when Jiuk said that he liked the song. He nodded at Jiuk's comments, and replied, "I was thinking that it was sort of melancholic and nostalgic. So that seems like an apt comparison. I don't write a lot of things that I think of as being love songs, though some of them end up that way after the fact. I like things like this and things that are catchy and fun more than the sort of love theme idea for music. It seems more relatable to more people."
He looked over at Jiuk and said, "So what do you think? You want to try writing some lyrics?"

Jiuk considered it for a moment, before giving his boyfriend a smile and a nod. "Yeah. But I really don't think I'd be able to convey the emotion I want to get across properly in Korean. But translating it from English to Korean probably wouldn't work." He was visibly torn as to what to do. "Gosh, I wish I grew up speaking Korean..." He looked up to Hwangjung with puppy dog eyes and a pout, "You'll help me make it work, yeah?"

Hwangjung made a reassuring humming noise and told Jiuk, "I think that you underestimate how much better you've gotten at Korean. You're holding entire conversations now, and you don't freeze up when Tai just switches over in front of you anymore, at least not on the outside."
He rubbed Jiuk's back a little bit and leaned over to kiss him lightly on the cheek before saying, "Of course I'll help you make it work. Start out with a mix. Write what you know enough for in Korean and the rest in English, and then we'll tweak it. There's nothing wrong with it being partially in English anyhow. We'll just make sure that the balance is right. Translating small bits is probably going to go more smoothly than translating large bits."
He grinned at Jiuk, glad that it sounded like he was actually willing to try, and said in Korean, "I trust you to do a good job. Love you."

Jiuk blinked at Hwangjung absent-mindedly, seeming to process what his boyfriend was saying for a moment before speaking, "Have I really?" He asked incredulously. He looked down at the ground, his face showing visible confusion. "Huh, I never noticed... But I guess you're right." He seemed to reflect on ti for a few moments longer before perking up and doing a fist pump, "In that case, let's do this!" He said excitedly. He gave Hwangjung a small grin, "I love you, too." He responded in Korean. After another few moments of silence he pointed a sleeved hand at the computer. "Can I get a copy of the song so I can listen to it while writing?"

Hwangjung grinned and kissed Jiuk on the cheek again when he agreed to work on the song together. He turned to his computer for a moment and clicked through a few options on the program he was using before saying, "I've shared an invitation and listening access for my account on this software with you. That means you'll be able to listen to the track and add notes, though I'm not giving you editing permission on the song itself. And you'll also be able to upload things like lyrics files. It should be in your email."
Jiuk had been mostly using his computer at a desk in the extra bedroom, especially since the space out in the garage that he'd converted into a studio hadn't really been ready yet, but it was ready enough now. He said, "Maybe we could get a second desk out here so that you could work out here with me. And definitely a couch. If I'm not at the computer, I want somewhere comfortable to just fiddle with ideas."
He glanced over at Jiuk and then asked, grinning, "So, dinner somewhere to celebrate you giving this a try?"

Jiuk nodded, turning on his phone and refreshing his email. "Yep, it's there." He confirmed with another curt nod and a grin. He looked at the now-studio, giving Hwangjung another nod. "I agree with the couch idea, and I think there's still plenty of space for a second desk so that we can work together." He bounced in the chair a bit, "Ah, I'm nervous and excited! I can't believe this is really happening!"
"Yes!" He said with the same energy as his last statement, nodding again. "I'm starving." He whined, though a laugh escaped.

Hwangjung grinned as Jiuk showed his enthusiasm. He stood and stretched before bending down to put another kiss on Jiuk's cheek. Then, after stretching again, he asked, "So any thoughts on where we want to go? Not Redz, it's one of my nights off."
He started tidying his work space so that he'd feel ready to go, and he looked around the partially finished room. He said, "We can talk about ideas for the space out here over dinner if you want. Among other things, if you're working out here with me, I want it to be a space that you are comfortable in as well."
With his computer put to sleep and his work space in order he turned back to Jiuk with a little nod and said, "Alright, I just need shoes and a jacket to be ready to go."

Jiuk nodded and followed Hwangjung back inside the house, trying to think of where they should go to eat. He pulled out the jeans he had worn to work and changed out of the pajama pants. He had been quiet until now, besides humming short responses to Hwangjung's comments, but finally spoke. "Since we're on the subject, how about Korean food? I could use some good K-BBQ." He pulled on his jacket as he looked to see if Hwangjung liked his suggestion. "And yeah, I'd love to discuss how to set up the studio with the potential of both of us using it."

Hwangjung slipped his keys and phone into his pockets and grabbed his shoes, putting them on at the bench by the front door. He told Jiuk, "Korean BBQ sounds good to me."
As they headed out the door for the car, he said, "I know that we're going to for sure need to get a second desk in there to both have work stations, but there's plenty of space for that. We can see about hitting up a thrift store for one, or we can venture down to IKEA some day when neither of us have work. I definitely don't want to do the couch from a thrift store, so IKEA might be a good plan either way."
He glanced over at Jiuk and asked, "Do you want to drive or should I?"
